Repairing driving lights

Paul/Simon
Thanks for the warning....surprised Paul's not been along yet to remind me to check with an OPC first!

Pelican used to list these as European spec units, but this description is not there now.

Lens mounting screws are so badly corroded on LHS that I can't get purchase on them with a screwdriver. I want to drill the heads out but would prefer to get them up on the bench and use a drill stand. I would be gutted to end up breaking £225 worth of perfect glass lens!

If you take the 'bat wing' off under the PU, you can then get your hand in underneath and get at the nuts that hold the lamp units into the PU, three M6 nuts from memory, once you have the full unit out they are easier to work on.

Cheers, Paul

I'd suggest checking with a friendly PC first. They are often cheaper than the after-market retailers, and ebay "bargains".

Paul's work here is done. [:D]

Now now chaps ..... I was just trying to help out . Perhaps I did focus too much on the 'cheap' and 'alternative' aspects of Toms post. By all means keep your motor original and fit genuine Porsche factory parts. If you can afford to buy the original lamps and can get hold of some ........... then you are one very lucky boy. Butcher........? Where I come from cheap and alternative is both a way of life and an art form. Best regards to 944 owners everywhere .......... whatever the state of your finances and your cars ....... always share the love. Zeusy.

Have to say, I'm with Herr Thorpe here. I have no objection to fitting alternative parts (indeed I was the instigator of the 'Alternative Parts Fitment' thread), provided some basic points are observed - i.e. that the car shouldn't be seriously altered to make them fit and that they should both look and work as well as the original part they replace. If these aftermarket driving lights fit, work in the way the originals do, don't look significantly different and can be fitted in such a way as not to preclude fitting the original part at some time in the future then I can't see anything wrong with them. I'd far rather see a car with £50 lights at the front in good condition than a car with the original lights smashed and green algae growing in the cracks.

I appreciate there are lots of "If's" and "Buts" here but I certainly wouldn't dismiss non-original parts too quickly when there is such a significant saving to be made.
