Replacement Key Cost?

I only have a 2003 Boxster Drivers Handbook, which shows the "spare key". 2003 and 2004 Boxsters use the same control module for the alarm/immobiliser, so I think that your OPC has got it wrong.

ORIGINAL: GreigM

hmmm, I'd be very upset if I found this to be the case for my car as I asked the question directly and was assured the service key would not start the car.

You got me thinking - so just had to go and try the service key 2002 S Yes it starts

Thanks guys, I think I'll be calling the dealer principal tomorrow as I asked this question directly several times and was ASSURED the service key would not start the car.

This is getting worse - I've just read on renntech that the existing (incorrect) remote I have could be reprogrammed, and all I required was a new metal piece to be cut - very disappointing as I had asked this directly also.

Doesn't the service key do everything except open the glove compartment (987) and Centre (by elbow) locking console (986) ??

If the service key didn't start the car, what would be the point in it? What they are telling you is absolute tosh. Also, you can get a spare key cut just by giving them the VIN number, and then the car has to be programmed - it is a 5 minute job.

Ok - maybe my mistake yesterday, he wasn't telling me the service key wouldn't start the car, but he now says you cannot order a service key - they are only supplied with the car new.

The PET shows a replacement key for the Boxster part number 996.538.932.00. It looks like it is supplied with the service key head:
