RESPRAY COSTS

Just been to check in on mine.

On the plus side: Glass is all out, detrimmed, front wings off and it looks like I've got all the rot out.

Less good: New screen required as it's started delaminating & All the bolts on the rear bumper rubbing strip have snapped - These looks to be borderline unobtainable for S2's unless anyone knows a source that isn't a bazillion £?

Drivers door was always a bit soggy - does anyone know if it is the door pins that wear or does the hinge half need replacing at the same time?

Ref rear bumper rubbing strip. £308 of your english pounds.

I have some sanding to do, but for £6.99 of metal epoxy, half an hour with a dremel deburring tool and some M5 bolts that were laying around (conveniently matching) we have some securely replaced bolts.

Looking forward to seeing everyone else's cars when done. Mine is stripped pretty bare

AFAIK there is a bush in the hinge that the metal pin fits into. I think it's made from some kind of plastic, it may be a door off job to access it. I believe the hinge is welded into the door, and is a pita to fix, if it's broken.

Yeah, I have the doors off & have ordered some new pins. I'm blindly hoping that will fix it rather than having to stomach new half hinges. By the sounds of it, the bush is in the half hinge. Might be back to the parts dept on Monday then.

The bush used to be available as a part, not anymore, only the hinge half or pins
but as it uses vw pins the bush might be available from them

Probably hard to get the old bush out without destroying it, but passenger side bushes likely have much less wear?

The passenger side is completely fine, definitely a wear and tear issue. Mk 2 Golf half hinges look different though

Greg,
If it's any use to you,I have a spare 924S rear bumper c/w black rubbing strip in good condition -the complete bumper was replaced after a neighbour reversed out of their drive & caught the composite bumper end but didn't damage the strip.
As a stupid van driver subsequently reversed at some traffic lights ,I also have a good front bumper .
I live in Freshfield,Formby L37 7DG .

I expect the majority of passenger side bushes are fine. I was suggesting removing one from a scrap car could be an option. Or finding someone to make some.

thanks - I’ve done a repair on mine which hopefully is up to muster. Will drop you a line if it doesn’t hold together.

I’ve ditched the sunstrip and track decals on the window. I’ve also got a correct wing decal from Highgate House.

(plus different wheels, big wang, plate, etc . . . )
Definitely don't want to see a photo of your big wang!

It’s only mildly tumescent in this pic - car is ready for pickup, collecting it later this afternoon.

The body on mine has been resprayed, painter is presently sorting out a blemish where some one has tried a screwdriver to dislodge the door handle,
Frustratingly i've never been able to post a picture on this site. followed various prompts and get nowhere every time. i admit to being a troglodyte when it comes to computers but i never have any trouble on other sites
Hope to get the car back for Bank Hols
Eddie

Looks great! Enjoy. Mine should be primed by now but can’t check as the ‘Rona finally caught up with me. Also hoping to have mine back for Bank Holiday and Silverstone Classic.

picture hosting on here is…harder than it should be

now that’s what i call a rear wing!

Wait until I get it up . . . So to speak.

Weirdly, I can post a picture from my phone/iPad if I change the size to "medium” but am unable to on a laptop.

I still take 10mins to find the PM box though!

Is there such a thing as wing envy

Looking really good there Davo, at 150mph I bet you can drive upside down when it's fully extended [8D]

Well it’s been painted…doors and most the rear end together as at Friday. Glass to go in, doors rebuilt and then front end. Pleased with the finish to say it’s fresh out the gun.
