Retensioning Timing Belt - required?

Hi all, aint been on in a while as been busy with work and the missus had wee boy so as you can all imagine I have been busy not getting much sleep. I have however done about 1300 miles since I did my belts etc. Have whipped the top cover off and they seem fine. Do they always need retensioned at the 1500 mile mark. Or just eyeball it aint gone slack and stick it back together. When I originally did the belt I had borrowed the correct tensioning tool. With the thumb and forefinger it felt ok after then. So now without the tool can I just use the thumb and finger 90 degree twist to check it. Just kinda want to throw covers back on and forget about it, whats everybodies opinion about redoing the tension after 1500miles. As usual thanks for any pointers.

90 degrees cold method is fine IMO, a matey borrowed the official tool from PCGB and after he was done it was basically a 90 degree twist at the centre of the longest span, that will do for me.

If you tensioner is in good nick it should be fine.I would just check at 1500-2000 miles and make sure it's not gone slack.

As said. If you don't have the correct tool then don't bother borrowing one for the check, just give it a tweak and make sure it's not wildly off.

(And yes, it's ALWAYS worth re-checking it. Covers off-check-covers on is a 10 minute job and could be 10 minutes to save your engine.)

Best of luck with the kiddiewinkle. I've never understood the appeal myself, but some people seem to like them.

Oli.
