ROAD ANGEL PLUS, etc.

Is it true that with any of these devices, they only warn you of speed cameras, etc. once they've locked-on to you & you're knackered &, consequently, they're no practical use whatsoever?

Thanks guys.

road angle et al warn you in advance - very useful. laser detector element - you would have to be very luck to get some scatter from another vehicle to trigger the alarm w/o being nicked, therefore virtually useless. radar has more scatter and therefore theoretically more useful, but gets triggered by lots of other things too = lots of false +ves

Road Angel and other devices use GPS to advise you in advance you are approaching a known speed camera location. This includes temporary ones if you update the device often enough (every 2 weeks say). So they are not useless. No device can save you from Laser, unless as mentioned you're lucky enough detect some scatter. However, I find the GPS speedo the most useful feature - it allows you to accurately drive at the posted speed limit if conditions allow, and pass the forewarned camera at the right speed, rather than a reactionary 10-20mph below the limit as many drivers seem to.

What are you really looking for - immunity from prosecution as an option[;)]? However, mobile unit locations can be known and if you update regularly will be downloaded. So to some extent, yes they can help.

Other than that, try using old fashioned discretion... If you're travelling at a rate that could be a problem on a road big enough to have bridges over(are these trunk routes, dual carriageways and motorways), that the authorities are likely to be checking speed on, then is that the best place to be exercising your vehicle or your discretion?

So let me guess the Law Man in the BLONDELAWMAN does not actually stand for enforcing the law but for practising the law i.e. lawyer? [;)]

Wot?

Competition for me and Judge John Deed?

Lawyers of the world unite; you have nothing to lose but your briefs!!

and yes, THX911; mercifully, that's exactly what it means...

Anyway, i think i want one of those Road Angel things now, whether it really works or not.

Do you guys think the RA Plus is the best bet; better, say, than the Snooper ones or anything else?

Sorry.

Criminal only and mostly Legal Aid at that!!

Pop into Snaresbrook Crown Court and you can meet me there - I am a Solicitor Advocate and towards the end of a long trial. Fighting for the rights of the small man against the State.

Power to the lawyers [8|].

God love you my son: it'll be Pro bono next!!

I spent a year in the Mags in Cumbria 2 years ago; feckin' terrified me...everytime i stood up, i thought i was going to have a cardiac arrest & my mind went blank...they always got 6 months! Higher Rights...nice touch; bet Counsel love you!

Sounds like a worthy cause though; what did he do, get caught trying to avoid IHT?!

I'm in the Herefordshire countryside these days, far from the smoke, otherwise I'd have come to see you take the criminal Bar apart!!

Thanks - case is conspiracy to supply £1.5 millions worth of Class A drugs.

Legal Aid = no 'pay rise' since 1997 and a reduction in Duty Solicitor rates [X(].

The Criminal Bar do not exactly love me [bread out of their mouths etc.] - and the Anti-Terrorist Squad does not exactly love me since my involvement in the Forest Gate raid.

Still, I do my best.

And the rest of the world hate you because you drive a Porsche!

Joking apart though, all the very best with the case; I hope it goes well: let me know.

I've recently undertaken quite a lot of research and bought a Road Angel Plus. The GPS based system of warning of fixed cameras is great, but I'd recommend you turn off the audible warning for all the other hazards e.g. schools (they're so congested with kids being dropped off, who the hell can speed past them anyway?!), otherwise it'll beep every 10 seconds and drive you nuts. I'm still uncertain as to the usefullness of the laser detector for the very reason discussed somewhere above i.e. if you're picked out by the mobile laser, is it too late?

But the best thing about it, is that it's rechargeable (up to 8 hrs per charge) so there are no cables dangling in the way.

I have a road pilot micro which only beeps if you are going over the speed limit in the ivicinity of a camera. Its acompact unit and so far works very well.

Is there a neat way to wire these in (from an existing electric source e.g. a light) or is it taking too much of a risk to leave them on display e.g. tempting a brake-in?
