I expect 991 Turbo will have performance even further away from the 458

Sorry but performance is much more than just a straight line drag race which is what the Turbo excels at. Round a circuit the 458 leave the Turbo for dead check out the EVO test times.

One of the reason the new 991 is quick is that it is lighter and they have widened the front track reducing understeer and making the car much quicker through corners.
I noticed a big difference in weight and cornering performance when I switched from a Turbo to a GT3. I hope the new Turbo will be much lighter as that will make it a better drivers car and more fun but £150k is till a lot of money for a 911

Make me think a 2 year old 991.2 Turbo will be reasonable value - assuming the original buyer spec'ed every single sports driving option...

Yes exactly, I only posted that for a bit of fun [;)]

It's all totally bonkers isn't it ?? I mean, how much faster can you actually go ??

I know full well about difference between 997 Turbo and a GT3, which is why I desperately want one....eventually....

Thinking about it. I think I'd rather have a 991 GT3 and keep my 997 Turbo. Same money as a trade in for a new 991 Turbo!

Be very interesting to see what engine and gearbox goes into the new GT3.

It can't be a Mezger as it doesn't comply to new EU emmissions regulations.

I am assuming they will have to strengthen some internal components though for racing.

Given the number of 911's that race around the world I expect the new GT 3 engine and gearbox will have to be good because Porsche has so much to live up to and so much to lose. The new light structure and widened track will make it quicker but it will also have to be robust which is what the Mezger excelled at. I love the fact I can thrash my GT 3 to within an inch of its life but it never complains. It likes to be driven hard.

Porsche is about making money so it will probably be a modified PDK box and modified DFI engine. The Mezger engine is going to be used in next years race cars for the Carerra Cup so the new engine is obviously not ready yet. The cost of producing an engine just for the road going GT/Turbo cars would be huge.

I thought Clives comments on comparing Ferrari and Porsche service and attitude to warranty claims were very interesting. If Porsche are charging £150k for a Turbo will they still be able to be dismissive of warranty claims?

ORIGINAL: Oggy

Either that, or actually fly

Does yours not ?? [:D]

Actually, I couldn't agree more...

I only have my car as a hobby and for weekend fun.  Have honestly never said "I wish it was just that bit faster"....even with only 480bhp on tap [:D]

A good friend of mine has a TVR 400SE he bought off E-Bay for £5k.  Is very rare and gets lots of attention at car meets, has NEVER broken down, sounds simply amazing (4.0L V8 through a stainless exhaust) and is still fast enough to make you smile.  Costs nothing to run and is now worth more like £8-10k....makes you think (if you are not a millionaire as I'm not unfortunately) [:(]

Anyway, slight diversion here....991 is amazing and Turbo will be even more so....worth £150k...irrelevant really as if you are even considering buying one, price must simply not be a consideration for you [:)]

Excellent answer and comments
