Road Use!?

thanks Steve......but subject to driving the RHD at Strasse on Thursday and a LHD asap I think I'm putting the CS on the back burner till next year and going for an RS....can I keep you posted?

James I have just driven to Le Mans and back and on French roads the RS is great. Did 2 laps on the circuit and passed everything except for a GT2 and GT3 which overtook me just after Arnarge. ( I am not much of a driver)They are a bit noisy on a long run but dare I say it "turn the radio up".
When I bought the car (about 4 years ago) it had just come from Austria and the suspension was set as low as possible at the front, and every pothole sent a shock through to the spine! Took it to JZ where Chris reset the suspension back to standard and transformed the car.
The driving position on a RHD is bad (Autocar 1992) and I was told once that Porsche GB asked the factory to fit Power steering as they did not think they would sell without! As Long as the RS has the correct 17" Mag wheels power steering is not needed.
At Le Mans there was about 30 RS 964, mine and a cup car were the only ones from GB. Total number of Porsche in the Club France enclosure was close to 600!

Thank God the 993 (RHD) is a Tiptronic, where would the clutch pedal fit!!!!!!

Where do I sign!?........been to Strasse today and left the deposit....thanks to one and all for all the input. Hope you all don't hold the PAS against me!? On first test it wasn't as raw as I'd expected or as noisy....but absolutely fantastic!

Also went to see Paul Scutts RSR and it confirmed to me that LHD as a first RS is a bridge too far for me.....soooo cool though that RSR.....SteveD, you should snap it up before someone else does.

Now the shopping list and must does!?.........! Any immediate must have ideas based on the description/piccies in this months 911PW?

Look forward to meeting you all.....oh and does anyone know whether any of the Porsche Speed Challenge competitors are running in RHD 964 RS...just a thought?

thanks again!

Congratulations Jimbers you have indeed seen the light(weight)......another convert and saved from the cupholding unbelievers......now remember Mr Badger is our friend and take it easy out there on the British Roads....Presumably you will now be coming to all the fantastic 964RS events as listed below please confirm your attendance.........

List the full spec etc of the car for general input from all, as to what to add if anything, presumably it has a Cup Pipe........[:)]

Des, I'm away for the August event but would love to come to JZ Brunch. Looking forward to it already.

Grasshopper stick your name down on the correct thread and look forward to seeing you both at JZ...........

......fuph...cold sweat moment......for a minute there I thought you meant the other half!......In fact she thinks Cars are my other half......I'll re-thread and see you then!

Don't think anybody's running a rhd RS in the speed championship this year (though Curbro' will be my first time out this year so I'm not sure) however Robert Lancaster-Gaye ran one a couple of years ago, (including with supercharger for some of the time). Car has changed hands a couple of times since then - Believe its for sale again - can't just remember who the dealer is.

Tony

Tony, do you think it might be Strasse????....A supercharger....OH MY GOD???!! Can anyone tell me whether the attachment......thrashing up and down hills and round tracks....and removal of a suprcharger would potentially damage the engine of an RS in any way....A supercharger....(feints imaginng swingingly expensive engine repalacement on the horizon even before collecting the car)

Don't suppose Tony you could put me in touch with Robert for a chat about the car if it is the one being sold by Strasse and featured in 911PW this month

Regard
Jimbers

Jimbers,
Could be Strasse - haven't got 911PW with me so can't check. Talk to Colin at 9M, not sure if they fitted the s/c but he knows the car & probably more about it than I do (he should be able to put you in touch with Robert as I've seen Roberts current car in there). Car was sold by Autofarm after Robert had it - with the supercharger removed - so it might be worth a word with them. Think it was mixed success - lots of power but difficult to manage.

Tony

David Lees ran a mint green RS with supercharger and 3.8 spoiler in the Open I believe - I can't remember whether it was RHD or not. Knowing David, it will have been thrashed to within an inch of its life (and beyond on some occasions)!
