roll cages

I want to strip the interior out of the car and make it a bit more club sportish.

First i need a good set of bucket seats and then a nice cage. any ideas of good seats and cages?

Has anyone gone as far as to take the carpets out too?

I left my carpets in because I still drive the car on the road. If you take out the carpet you have to remove all the glued on soundproofing under it and then the glue that held that down, which is meant to be an horrendous job. After all that you need to paint the floor in all probability and then you have a car so noisy you need earplugs. I have considered taking out the carpet and the soundproofing and then refitting the carpet straight over the metal as a half-way measure.[FONT=verdana, geneva"] [FONT=verdana, geneva"]In terms of "ClubSporting" the interior I took out the electric windows, central locking, rear wiper, electric mirrors, headlamp adjusters & washers, air-con and tailgate release, plus all the associated wiring from the loom. I took out the rear seats and replaced them with the foam base from a scruffy brown pinstripe set covered in carpet (for gearbox noise suppression) and the fronts with a pair of Corbeau Sprint seats (test loads of styles to see what you feel fits though - I went to the Autosport show a couple of years ago for that purpose). My seats are fixed and I think that lets them sit much lower than those on adjustable runners - Peter has an adjustable one and that's what he said at least.[FONT=verdana, geneva"] [FONT=verdana, geneva"]I haven't fitted a cage yet, but I am torn between a bolt-in rear cage with harness bar (Safety Devices?) or a full custom weld-in with suspension pick-up sections. A weld-in is about 3 times the price of a bolt-in and needs the interior totally stripped plus I think the headlining will be impossible to refit once there's a load of plumbing inside the roof, but it will stiffen the chassis and come into its own if I ever stack the car at high speed. I have a pair of Sabelt 5-point harnesses but I have not used them yet as I don't have a harness bar to guide the shoulder straps at a safe angle.[FONT=verdana, geneva"]

yeah fen i still use mine on the road too. I was going to go for a bolt in cage so i can remove it again if i ever sell the car.

Your bucket seats really seem to suit the car, some of the ones i have seen look bloody awful. I lifted the carpet out a bit yesterday and found it was like a swimming pool below them, is that normal? there are no holes in the floor or anything though cant understand where the water is coming from. It wasnt in pools or anything just the foam sound deadening was really wet.

I have already taken the back seats out and made up a seat delete kit of my own. What suspension have you got in yours fen it sits very low?

Must be leaking - check the drains in the scuttle and the sunroof drains a clear, or if it's the back it could be the quarterlights or the hatch seal. It shouldn't leak, but it's common that they do.[FONT=verdana, geneva"] [FONT=verdana, geneva"]I have KW variant 3 coilovers. I'm off out now but if you search for a thread called "Shiney" or "Shiny" (how DO you spell it?) then it has lots of the bits pictured as I was having them delivered.[FONT=verdana, geneva"] [FONT=verdana, geneva"]Last pic with 968 skirts:[FONT=verdana, geneva"]

Is that yours Fen? Awesome.

We need to talk please. I`d love to see your car and discuss what to do with mine now.

Wife`s gone mental that I`m selling it and gettin a loan for a VX220 turbo as she wants an extension next year (House that is, not me[:D]) Sons got the raging hump (he will only let me sell it if I get another Westy [8D])

Deal is that I can spend some money on it if she gets the extension built. So I`m now keeping it.

Need to discuss new bushes, uprated ARB`s, ditch a/c, new discs/pads, rebuild/buy new dampers and who will do the work in all or part.

Anyone else that I can meet over next month if they want a pint, a natter and to show off their cars will be appreciated.

Cheers

Paul ps: Happy New Year

Good to hear your keeping such a nice example Paul, even better that you will be improving it further.

Maybe we ought to organise a New Year get together around the end of January and help Paul decide NOT to sell his car.

Who knows I 'may' even have my car back by the end of the month [:D], the block should return from the machine shop this week as a sleeved 3.2 litre and then finally Jon Mitchell can start putting it back together in the car.

Then I also will be looking at bucket seats and other safety equipment, but first I want to get the thing run in and then as many trackdays as possible as I haven't driven on track in nearly 9 months []

I'm up for a social meet I guess. Can we pick a day when it is not icy, foggy AND hosting a major disaster all at the same time though please? I guess the west side of London is too much to ask, as the last meet that I missed was Reading?

Well, technically that is to the west of London, but it wasn't exactly what I had in mind...

very west haha, would be a good wee trip for you lot though i bet you havent been over here before haha

Thanks Graeme, see you and your new car soon.

Agreed, excellent idea.

Agreed. West London is OK for me. What about ACE Cafe? Meet greet AND eat [8D].

Sounds like a top idea guys... can we have a seperate post to keep it in everyones sight?

Mine should be done with its KW setup by the end of next week!! [:)]

I'm up for eating with meeting, but it has to be a weekend unless it's local (for anyone I guess) and not much is local to me.[FONT=verdana, geneva"] [FONT=verdana, geneva"]Anyone thinking of going to the Autosport show next weekend? I'm toying with the idea and we could do it then.[FONT=verdana, geneva"]

Is it possible to get in on Friday as a member of the public? My main reason for going is to get a pair of boots and maybe gloves for trackdays and I would rather not pay £25 for a ticket including some dumbed-down "motorsport" live action.

Youve a number of options. Id suggest Safety Devices bolt-in from EMC (although Kev told me he wasnt stocking them any longer last Autumn) and a full or half bolt in from Rollcentre, depending which end of the scale youre looking at. If youre happy to tackle a larger welding job than a bolt in cage requires then there are some other suppliers too.
