Rolling Road Day-Gauging Interest

Hey everyone! Im setting myself a bit of a top gear challenge. I've booked in at DSautomotive in Aylesbury for a power run this Saturday, idea being to see how many horses i have left of the original 190. If its less thats great as ill have something to work on, and if its still good, thats good as its running well but the thought of turbos will enter my head again. Plus i get to see what the place is like, ive used DSautomotive years ago but whilst under another name.

What i was thinking was if people were interested, and its any good, arranging a little meet and session there? I hope the same crowd that went to the Rutland meet would be interested as i pulled out and its not so far from there. There is a nice cafe over the road too, im paying £50 squid but if i speak to them friday and you guys are interested i can bargain a discount for a group. Sound good? i think so.

I bet Mas will be interested!

mmm, will you be having a word and see if they would give a discount for several cars , they should even for two or more in my opinion. Saturday might be short notice for many.

My car's having a Cambelt service Friday so I assume I'll get it back same day
I could be tempted to come over for a bacon roll and a cuppa anyway if I were asked [;)]

Cheers Mas

Just read that back i'm talking crazy!

What i meant is! I'm going down for a reccy Saturday, and if enough guys are intrested i will speak to them about arranging a session for later, and trying to get a group discount. Prospective date in a month or so if anyone is interested.

Ill post up after saturday to report my findings on venue, service and state of my car!

Cheers Mark

I would definately be up for it, it's right on my doorstep after all. I do really struggle with Saturday events, but hopefully I might be able to get some cover at work for a couple of hours (or try to find someone daft enough to take the car over on my behalf [:D]).

Good it'd be nice to meet you Peter! I really wanna look around your car actually! well hopefully ill find some good info out saturday and get the ball rolling!

Mark, just an idea, would it be possible to ask the garage if they have the facility to corner weight the cars on the same day? I think it would be fun to compare weights of cars as well as power.

Assuming they still have the same setup from the G-Force days it should be a Dyno Dynamics one, so the same as used on the other dyno days and one of the most consistent.

All welcome, ill have to speak to them and see what they can do for us! got my car back at least now-still minus working head lights and 60 odd quid lighter ouch!

If it's a Dyno Dynamics rolling road then I'd be interested and you should get plenty of interest as 944 Dyno Days are always popular. The going rate for around 10 cars seems to be circa £35 or so

If it's a Dyno Dynamics rolling road

The key thing. Lots of owners have regularly used the Register dyno days because having the same dyno means accurate comparison between changes. The actual figure is fairly meaningless, and some dynos read high to make punters feel better [;)]. The important thing is the reading between changes to the car. Rick's dyno league only counts Dyno Dynamics results for this reason.

Indeed we do like a Dyno Day and I'd almost certainly be up for this.

Also worth pointing out that even if you use the same Dyno Dynamics equipment at the same site, then you can still can't rely on them being absolutely accurate or consistent. I remember 2007 on the 'Rollers of Truth' all the figures looked a fraction high - a good example being my own S.2, which measured 206.4 in 2005 dropping to 196.1 in 2006, and then rising to 221.9 in 2007 only change being an ESS decat......never did get Rick to enter my figure into the league. I have the graphs to prove, so make of that what you can.

Still be interesting to see how it's looking 3 years on against a group of others on the day.

McNulters - I hope you'll be giving yours a spin now you've got the S.2 [;)]

...... Builders start on Monday.

OT - I hope you have seen the film "The Money Pit". It should be compulsory viewing for anyone undertaking (or even contemplating) serious home improvements.

Back on thread and taking up Wolfie's posts. All cars will give varying figures on different days as there are many variables; type of fuel, condition of spark plugs, air filter etc.

It is to be expected that an engine will loose power over time, once worn in, due to reduced compression through bore ware. So your lower figure one year later isn't that suspicious. Similarly, you changed the specification with a different exhaust the following year so, again you would expect the figures to be different.

Taking all of the above into account, a dyno is only really a tool to compare one run after another on the same day to see what effect changes make between runs.

Weather will make a difference and often top end bench dynos are in a fully air conditioned environment to reduce this effect.

The other issue with rollers is you aren't reading the power at the engine but at the wheels. How dynos convert the measured power at the wheels to the assumed power at the flywheel makes a big difference to the figures. Dyno Dynamics dynos seem to work this difference more consistently and, ignoring atmospheric differences, this is why DD dynos are stated for Ricks power league.

What are the chances of Beaky having a run John? Go on, you know you want to [:D]

I also think we need to see how a certain new blue race car is fairing and what the 3.2L monster is making now that it has a proper exhaust. :ROFLMAO:

TBH it would most likely be depressing running Beaky as I think his glory days are past in respect of power. He hasn't done badly but with 200k under his belt and 1ltr of oil every 500 miles I think we can conclude compression ain't what it used to be.
