Well, don't know about anyone else, but I was well chuffed with my 240bhp from an engine supposed to be putting out only 228.

Here are a few pictures for you.

Never mind the noise....it was the smell of ammonia nearly killed us all! I think they were spraying something ammonia based onto the tyres to make them stick to the rollers.

Greig.
Thanks for taking the pics and posting them on the forum .Glad you enjoyed the day I think the smell was from the cats seemingly they reach 1000c or something like that ! what do I know!!
Cheers Brian RO1.

Hi Greig
Sorry to have to break this to you over the forum but it was found later in the day that the BHP figures were SAE and not DIN
When recalculated this means your car put out 197BHP[X(]

NOT!!!!!!!!!!!!!! Ha Ha[:D][:D][:D][:D][:D]

The day was a revelation and the staff certainly put in the hours, many thanks Jim and son.
Wayne it has to be said has just an encyclopaedic knowledge of all things "Porsche engine related" and it was a privelige to hear the truth about the various strengths and weaknesses of Stuggart's finest.
It was nice for the 996 owner to know he has one of the most powerful engines ever tested, this together with your Boxster leads me to think there is definitely something in the Scottish water ( cooled).
Something you may not know is that this particular rolling road has a reputation for accurate/conservative outputs and cars tested on this road and then on a well known road down south are sometimes 10-15BHP greater when tested elsewhere.
So hope you all enjoyed yourseves, my car after Wayne's tuning is faster smoother and more economical!!

Bstd, I almost cried for a second there!!!

How did Phil's car get on?

Any other Hp figures to share? And no-ne grenaded an engine???[:D]

Greig,
What mods have you done to get the extra Hp? One things for sure, a new car shouldn't put out less thatn the factory figure as Porsche (used to anyway) test all cars and if they are to low or high from the stated factory figure they get dumped.

To All .
I phoned Star Performance to thank them for our visit , he said we are welcome back any time ,said you where a nice bunch of guys , doesn't know you then, does he ? Thanks again for your support and to Mike for getting Wayne to come up.

PS I wont tell the RSPCA about the cats
Cheers Brian RO1

OK the figures for my car were 245 and 251 BUT and it's an important but, the second figure is with the car and surrounding air red hot.
I am assured that a retest on a cooled car with coolish air will give an addnl 4-5 BHP and maybe more. Bottom line I am happy with a 3.2 in the 250+ range (for this week!!)
The car however feels great , much smoother and torquier.
The peak torque figure didn't rise much -- only a couple of lb/ft. but the dyno readout showed gains throughout the RPM range.
For the price charged -- £250+vat this has got to be seriously good value compared to buying an off the shelf chip, not mention the fact that the fueling was remapped and found to be way too rich -- this apart from being wasteful can cause burnout of valve guides etc.[FONT=Tahoma"][FONT=verdana, geneva"]
Phil reports similar type of gains with the all important car feels better factor.
There is of course bound to be a placebo effect when having spent money you want your car to feel better, but having done loadsa mods over the years it's nice to be able to report on an affordable way to truly improve the Porsche experience.
Roll on the trackdays, come and have a go if you think yer fast enough....

Mike

Mike, is that flywheel or wheel horse power you are quoting?

I assume the torque was around the 235 lbft mark?

If 2 runs were done in succesion then the intake temps will deffinatly affect the second run. You are prob right with atleast 5bhp losses. Its alwasy good to get a custom remap, thats a great price BTW, much better than a generic chip.

This is an 87 3.2 carrera not a Boxster
The BHP is flywheel
A standard 87 left the factory 17 years ago with 231BHP
The torque is nowhere near 235 as it normaly apirated and 210 is the figure.- standard peak torque no change from standard but no fall off at 5500RPM
Peak power developed at 6520 RPM , standard car 5900.
After remap max RPM set at 6930 ( puts gear change into the meat of the torque curve.)at 4500
The changes are excellent for hard driving/trackday stuff - exactly what I want.
More torque is developed for a longer period and the power ie the speed at which torque ( pulling power) is developed keeps increasing until 6520RPM.
In summary this engine is a screamer very much like my old 2.4S, but unlike that car 190lb/ft torque is present at 2000RPM so it is not hard work to drive.
Your 944 Turbo will have a much , much greater torque output much lower in the rev range as did Phils 968 that was tuned and it is always fascinating to compare different engines.
Bet mine is faster round Knockhill though

Mike[:D][:D]

Silly me i thought i was a boxter S you were talking about..

Never driven at knockhill, so you dont think my 70bhp and 90lbft advantage would help then?

lbft NOT lb/ft [;)]
