RS Insurance with trackday cover

Yeah, yeah I know this has been discussed here a few times but as insurance policies seem to change from one month to the next I thought I'd try again...

It's insurance renewal time - nearly a whole year of ownership of the RS! I took a policy with Classicline last year which included trackday cover for all official PCGB organised trackdays with an excess of 10% of the value of the car. Unfortunately, I haven't managed to get the car on track yet - mainly due to noise limitations and work commitments - but I've promised myself I'll track it soon.

My premium isn't extortionate, but I'm interested to know who other RS owners are insured with, how much it costs, and whether any insurers cover trackdays with other companies or in other countries (e.g. PCF Spa) which might open up other opportunities for getting my car on track. Also, interested in what other companies excess is for trackdays.

My current policy is detailed below - feel free to copy/paste and fill in your details for comparison (driver age not compulsory[;)]):
___________

Classicline

964 Carrera RS LHD - some modifications, cage, chipped, higher bhp, etc.
5000 miles limited annual mileage
£35,000 agreed value
36 yr old, living in Glos, car is garaged each night
Porsche Club GB only trackday cover at 10% excess

£580 premium with £500 excess

_____________

I'm insured with A Manning (01491 578759) for my 964 C2, and recently got a quote from them for something similar to your car:

964 Cup, LHD, full cage
5000 mile annual limit
£50K value (not agreed at the moment, but they will also do agreed value)
44 years old, living in Surrey, car garaged overnight
All ATDO trackdays (plus MSV), no limit on number of days, £1250 excess on track
Thatcham Cat 1 required
£620 p.a., £500 excess

I don't know where they stand regarding European track days.

Went through all of this at the beginnig of the month, and this is what worked best for me ........

964 RS, Half Matter cage, MoTeC Engine management (20% power increase over stock)
£38k agreed value
5000 miles
Garaged in London W14
No special security requirement
Myself aged 31 and wife 30 to drive
Excess £200
Premium £495
Trackcover at £50 per day, inc European cover, track excess £950 (not 10% of value as most policies)

The policy is with these people http://www.hagertyinsurance.co.uk/

Unless you plan to do an awful lot fo track days I think this works out pretty competitive.

As Jamie says, definitely give Hagerty a go.....only people that I could get cover for the RSR with, well without being well and truly fleeced i.e 5 times the price. Used a chap called Darren, policy issued by Allianz so quality security.

That's the chap, Darren Saunders. Very easy to deal with, actually knew what a 964 RS was and MoTeC. All in all a very good service.

Thanks for the tip about Hagerty. I've just had a really competitive quote from them...

964 Carrera RS LHD - some modifications, cage, chipped, higher bhp, etc.
5000 miles limited annual mileage
£38,000 agreed value
36 yr old, living in Glos, car is garaged each night

Hagerty
£425 premium with £300 excess (or just £370 if I limit to 4,000 miles)
All recognised independent and PCGB trackdays (but not Nurburging which seems usual) - £45 per trackday with £1050 excess.
Underwritten by Allianz.

Classicline
£595 premium with £500 excess
Porsche Club GB only trackday cover at 10% excess = £3,800!
Underwritten by KGMotor Policies at Lloyds.

Thanks for the advice guys. [:)]

Are any other members with Hagerty Insurance - any experiences of their service?

Rich,
Interesting that they've given you a higher excess, is there any obvious reason ? I was told that the track excess is £750 on top of whatever your road excess is - so that looks about right in this case. Also I'm sure they told me it was £50 per track day - but frankly I'm not going to quibble over a fiver .............
Glad they were able to provide a competitive quote ! At least it proves it wasn't a fluke when they quoted for me !!!!

Jamie

Jamie,
The excess was £200 plus a voluntary £100 which they added (I didn't volunteer!) to bring the premium lower. I didn't ask what the premium would be with £200 excess - I was just happy it was less than Classicline's £500. I'll ask before I renew in August.

Yes, track excess is £750 more than normal excess - so would be £1050 if I go with £300 excess.

Trackday fee is 10% of the cost of the annual premium + ins. tax = £45 in my case.

Thanks again for the advice.
Rich

Aha ! That ll makes sense. It's all swings and roundabouts then playing off excess versus lower initial outlay - interesting they didn't offer me that option when I took out my policy.
Regardless I think we're both happy ! It was a lucky find on Google when trawling for companies that offer track cover ! To that extent I have no idea what they will prove to be like to deal with over time, but I found it refreshing to be dealing with someone who actually had a clue what he was talking about.
Out of interest I was offered the exact same Allianz policy by a different broker for £100 more - so obviously higher excess and track day cost. I didn't get any where near the same service or comfort from the other borker, so was more than happy when I found Hagerty.

After a bit of research I finished up using A. Manning.

The cheapest quote I received was Peart at £354 but they also wanted £50 per event for trackdays.

The Manning quote at £423 included track days with ATDO, FAEO and PCGB. I also paid an extra £75 for breakdown recovery insurance etc. making the total £500. Additional accidental damage excess for track £750.

So far I have done Brands, Silverstone and am booked for at least 5 more track days this year which means that the all in rate from Manning will have proved cheaper in the long run.

LHD
92 Basic lightweight
No mods
No alarm
Garaged
£45,000 agreed value
Buckinghamshire
Old codger

Nick

A Manning all day long if you are going to track it.

But as yours is a garage queen like it was with its previous owner have you tried Tesco's or Saga?[;)]

I could recommend A manning for a very long list of reasons.....

I wanted to go with A Manning, but sadly they were more than three times the quote that I took in the end. I would need to do an awful lot of trackdays to make up the difference ! For whatever reason Manning just aren't competitive on London postcodes ..............

Jamie

Classic Line cover the car at the Ring and Spa with PCF. ADTO days are £75 a day. I do some Pistenclub days in Europe too which they cover me for.

Mine is RSL £40K agreed and under £500/annum

I mainly drive at Spa so this the best policy for me.

Spoke to Hagarty Insurance today and was told that they could not insure my car due to its modifications? The modifications include a roll cage and a different ECU ( 20% power increase). After reading the above postings, I was somewhat surprised to say the least! Anybody had a similar experience with them recently? Have they changed their underwrighters perhaps? [&:]

Matt,
That's very strange - I renewed with them last month, and went through the modifications with them (including cage and MoTeC) and they weren't bothered in the slightest. I'd try them again if I were you, I'm not aware they've changed underwriters (track cover element etc seemed exactly the same). The only issue I can see is that you have a full cage and I've only got a half cage............

Jamie

I've just renewed today with no problems with the mods listed in my post above.

I'd advise you speak to Darren in the Classic Policy dept.

Perhaps it is because I don't have a clean licence (4 points/sp 50) or because of my unspent conviction(8 years ago/ not driving related). Perhaps they were trying to be polite?...Anyway they did insist it was the mods. I may try this Darren guy tomorrow.

Cheers, Matt.

I spoke to Darren yesterday about a new something --- please mention my name, he gave me a quote on my Maritime car at Silverstone.

Tell him I'm prepared to let you drive my car ? Paul also obtained a quote and this sharing of drives is a real plus .... with Hagarty insured friends.

Renewed my policy with A Manning a couple of weeks ago and it had gone down by a little. To offset this, Allienz Cornhill have increased the trackday excess to 10% of the car's value on ALL of their policies from renewal date. I guess we have to accept this as it brings them into line with everyone else.
