How difficult was it to fit - what happens with the airbag "gubbins" and sensors etc?
I have a similar wheel from a 3.2, and was wondering if it could be made to fit a 993?
How do you tell the different versions of the wheel?
Questions questions, I know, but it looks really good []
Is it lighter because the steering wheel weighs less, so has less inertia than the heavy airbag wheel (something that Chris Harris mentioned in passing on p117 of Feb edition of GT & PP when comparing the steering of a 993RS vs his 993 GT2), or is it heavier because of the reduced leverage you have on a steering wheel that is smaller in diameter ? Or no difference at all ?

First disconnect your battery and leave for about 20 mins
Take off the airbag by undoing the two torx screws behind the airbag.
Remove the wheel by undoing the 24mm nut
Take off the plastic suuround - 4 screws
Remove plastic collar - 2 screws and then find the yellow inline connector, there are two of them and disconnect the plugs. This te lets you romove the plastic collar that was in place for the airbag.
Put plastic surround back on and put on new wheel
Reconnect battery. You then realise that your airbag light is blinking, so pull out clock and remove bulb[]
If the wheel looks the same it may have a different boss. Mine had L7004 stamped on it if that is any help.
I have only driven it to the end of the road and back so have not had a chance to form any major conclusions other than everything just looks better and it feels good in your hands.

I changed my wheel for a 3 spoker from a 996/boxster (as have a few others I'm sure). That looks good too, and retains the airbag if that bothers anyone...
Incidentally, mine came with a black and silver badge rather than the coloured one, which looks great too.

I am of the opinion that airbags are more dangerous than people let on.
When my last 993 was written off by an Audi TT, all the injuries I sustained to my arms, face and chest were due to the activation of the airbag, I was just lucky that my seatbelt held me back as I could have been seriously injured.
