RS steering wheel

'just' unplugs:

I've taken off air bag steering wheel before - was advised to disconnect the battery few hours beforehand - to rule out any risks, then you unbolt the air bag / central pad of the steering wheel ( 2 bolts you get to from behind the steering wheel - special type: T27 or T30s I think ) .

Once that is off - eased off slowly - as you need to 'un'plug' the air bag connector inside the wheel and the wire does not give you a huge amount of slack.

, then you will be able to see the main bolt that holds the wheel to the steering column ( 24mm I think )

other tip is to make sure your sheels are pointing dead ahead before you start the process - so you can line up the new steering weel when you fit it.
Hope that helps, T[&:]

Hi

Is there also a "corrrect" way to disable the airbag warning light, other than simply removing the bulb and cancelling the main warning light every time you start up?

cheers

Pete

Ideally, you should wire a suitable resistor across the terminals of the connector to simulate the resistance of the airbag. This fools the diagnostic part of the ECU into thinking the airbag is still present. This way you don't have to remove the bulb and the diagnostic function still works on the passenger airbag. I have seen plug in resistors for this type of application advertised on the net. You may want to run a search on Rennlist.

What PP said, Strasse in Leeds did mine for me, didn't seem as straight forward a job as what I thought it would be, some soldering involved and additional wires, and for what they charged it was well worth the job being done correct.

Edited to say- The disconnecting the battery a waiting a few hours is bollox, they did the job immediatley with no problems.

Thanks, I'll ask my local indie to see what they think, have an RS steering wheel lurking in the garage so might be a way forward

cheers
