RS wheels stolen

I just had my friends 993RS wheels refurbed by Adrian, lovely job highly recommended, and they were sat in my garage waiting to be collected and when i got back from Cadwell this Tuesday, front door (metal) ripped open and the wheels gone, plus my set of cup 2 road wheels and two sets of Golf GTI wheels (yes I have - had- a wheel fetish).

If anyone comes across a set of RS wheels in mint condition from Gloucestershire area in suspicious circumstances - i.e. they don't have an RS they have come from, please ping me a message or let Gloucestershire police - PC Wellfair - 0845 090 1234 know, plus anyone got any ideas where you can get a mint set of genuine wheels from for something approaching sensible money, whatever that is?

Many thanks

John

That's not good. Also in Gloucestershire so will keep my ear to the ground. Hope the police find them.

Sorry to hear this John, worth checking the normal outlets like ebay, pistonheads, local auto jumbles etc,
I have a spare refurbished rear wheel also done by Adrian, not much use without the other three though.
good luck on the return.

Thanks,

yup am watching ebay and pistonheads (have posted on there as well) and am doing the rounds of the local breakers as well, fingers crossed.

cheers

John

John,

Sorry to hear of your troubles. I feel for you. These idiots will steal anything. I've suffered myself (would you believe Yorkstone flags? Yep, nicked my paving in broad daylight).
If your friend gets really stuck for replacements let me know, I have a spare set of genuine Speedlines I might part with.

Some freshly restored wheels come to market.
Probably a coincidence....

Thanks Paul, going to look at them tomorrow and have first dibs on them, either they are a good replacement for my nicked one or ...........

once again very much appreciate the heads up

I just drove past your house John - noticed you've installed some SERIOUS security measures running through the trees! :p Good job.

Did you/Police ever find the wheels?

Yes i like security, you should see what else I have done :) really pi$$es me off that you have to spend as much on security as the stuff that was taken, oh well, should discourage a return visit!

No joy with the police or our own enquiries with various "groups" that are well known for taking stuff in Gloucestershire - I have a friend who is reasonably well connected. The general consensus was that they were from out of county, probably swindon direction, not that that helps find them or aprehend the culprit, they are probably long gone now! Their is a serious reward out for the wheels or finding the people, so a number of aformentioned "groups" are on the look out for hookey RS wheels. In the meantime the insurance has paid up and new wheels sourced from the OPC, with the inevitable hit on the excess, NCB and future premiums!

The sad thing is, like all the bronze war memorials and civic statues being stolen at the moment, they were probably taken for their scrap alloy value and have been melted down. []

thats the idea of my trees [;)]

yup they will have been made into horrible Oz alloy wheels now available for £500 a set at your local halfords by now!!

John,

I know it's been a while since the theft and I'm not sure if the wheels were ever recovered but I've just noticed this on a well known auction site. The 'reason' for selling looks a little dubious to me.....worth investigating ?

RS Wheels

All the best,

PP

I seem to remember a new set cost under 4k if you haggle a bit. At thsi price why not buy new? Unless they have gone up a lot in the last 2 or 3 years.

What do Porsche charge now, anyone know?

orth investigating ?

I know the seller of those wheels - and so does Paul Howells.
He specialises in sourcing Porsche parts (and interesting cars), and wouldn't be knowingly involved in anything illegal......too much to lose.
And description is correct - he is technophobic, unless it's aircooled with a Porsche badge!

Pilot Paul, thanks for the heads up, just got back off hols and car and all parts still there - Phew!

Will be hard to prove are my wheels as no serial numbers, unlike tyres, which is why they are probably for sale without tyres!

does seem very suspicious but have probably been through two or three (or more) sellers by now :(

Mike you could get a set of brand new genuine wheels with centre caps for £4300 exc VAT last October, I should know I got a set through my insurance company for the car.

In terms of this set, I would investigate Europe and claim the VAT back and then they look pretty expensive, for a refurbished pair versus a brand new pair. I would of thought that a semsinble price would have been £2500 but I am not in the market, just in the market to find out who knicked them, so that they can feel the weight of the law!

cheers again for looking out for them

John
