RSR Exhaust Enquiry

Lee
My 993 C2 cabrio was in for bodywork recently and as luck would have it I had a 997 4S as a courtesy car for 2 weeks!! The 997 has a switchable sports exhaust which sounds fantastic - no need for in-car entertainment when the out-car entertainment was so good. Of course, when the 993 came back the exhaust sounded like a lawn mower in comparison.
Having spent some time reading the glittering reports on RSRs on the Forum, and speaking to Gert, I was ready to commit until I spoke to JZ Machtech. They say they have done "before and after testing" on the RSRs and found power/ torque issues. To cut a long story short they recommend the Dansk exhaust, which is obviously a more expensive solution and reportedly not as nice a sound as the RSRs. As I believe you have experience of both systems, I would be very interested in your views. For background, the 993 is my everyday car so I don't want too aggressive. I don't do track days and spend too much time in London suburbia traffic, so most of the time I am under 4,000 rpm.

PS As nice as the 997 is, I was glad to have the 993 back. Objectively the 997 is streets ahead. When you are not in the mood it drives like my old 5-Series Sport, and when you are in the mood it's a Porsche. The 993 is a Porsche all the time - whether you want it or not, but most of the time I do.

Blimey 15 months jump between thread 1 and 2 on page 2 of this thread!
Just to let you guys know,i went for de-cat pipes and am over the moon...the car sounds like it should have from the factory, pops on over run and DOESNT drone at any revs. Its quiet inside the car with a lovely rumble outside.
Ive not noticed any power loss...i think it picks up quicker.
Well happy £195 mod.

Do you mean de-cat pipes and then leaving the rest of the system factory standard or did you change other bits of it too?

Ian.

Yes, just de-cats,i got 6x new nuts/bolts and 2 gaskets,it was a bit of a bugger getting the old cat off as the bolts had rusted away,i think 4 came undone and 2 had to be drilled off.I removed the rear bumper which makes access easy. There is a thread for the lamba in one of the pipes....obviously you have to know someone who will overlook this at MOT time[;)].

I'm off to Carnewal next week to get my RSR's fitted! Well, thought I'd make a day of it by going over to Gert's - then i can enjoy the new tunes on the journey home. Can't wait!!!

I read this thread with interest as my car was in having RSR's fitted the day it started, i can say that they are very loud outside of the car and i mean loooud, in fact the sound is amazing, inside not a huge difference but a better sound in a subtle way. No loss in performance and the car does seem to rev slightly quicker. It now sounds like it's meant to and i can't stop driving it!
