S2 Airbox in LUX badge panel?

As the title says, does anybody know if the S2 airbox will fit in the Lux nose as I'm currently running a cone filter, which I suspect has the filtration properties of one of my old socks.
The Throttle body of the 968 intake lines up nicely with the hole in the nose above the rad hopefully allowing me to plumb straight into an S2 airbox.
If it wont fit and I have to stick with a cone style filter, can anybody recommend a good one? Preferably one narrow enough to fit inside the badge panel.

No it wont fit, I drove round for a short while without a badge panel on whilst I hunted for a 924T badge panel so I could go over to a cone (from memory the S2 has ducting to get air into the badge panel area so without a similar arrangement I think it's wise to have an opening in the badge panel).

For cone filters I have used Green filters for years without problems, I can measure the diameter of the filter I used when I get home if that helps, it was a good fit.
 
Many thanks, that saved me expensive experimentation. Would be handy to know which size filter will fit in the badge panel, if its not too much hassle to measure it.
 
Sorry, forgot to measure it last night, will make sure I do it tonight.

I drove around for a few miles without the badge panel and even did a track day straight after the engine swap with no harm done (there are pics on here somewhere, it didn't look pretty!). Not that I'm condoning such behaviour, but I'm curious to know why you think it's such an issue Simon.
 
Ive seen two cars that ran without badge panels Pete: both salvage after their bonnets were forced open whilst driving.
 
Peter, hope I've posted this before you went to the trouble of measuring your filter. I finished work early and popped the badge panel off (easier said than done) and my current filter fits, so I know what size I can get away with.
With regards to airflow I am tempted to move the number plate to the right a couple of inches and cut a hole in the bumper to duct air straight into the filter. I'm not to worried about the bumper as it has a couple of cracks in it anyway.
 
James, Ive a 951 PU in my garage that I can take a picture of if itll help / is needed. Off the top of my head though; the airflow is directed by a separate flimsy black ABS part, which should be easily identifiable on PET, and may fit your car with a little easing.

Ahh now I like the idea of the 924 turbo badge panel, but I did hear the little vents are hard to get hold of?
I decided cutting the bumper was a silly idea and will just run a bit of flexible pipe to somewhere cool until I find a better solution.
 
Its a long time since I bought any; but they used to be available for next to nothing from OPCs.

Marek actually does a different version specifically for the S2/Turbo. It's a direct fit, but based on the same 924 Carrera GT design.

I've just ordered vented wings from Marek, should be here in another day or two. I was going to go for this panel at the same time, but realised it could look a bit daft without the rubber vent parts from the old 924. Maybe a project for another time.
 
He does, but James has 937 style front, not a 951... [:D] The ideal badge panel would be a screw-on 924 shape with a later GT-Racing style single inlet: itd be a limited market though (perhaps just the one fellow in Reading).

I would be extremely interested to hear your opinion on the quality and fit of these products. I have found the man to be efficient and professional in my very limited dealings with him: hopefully the kit will be as good as it looks. When you realise that his prices are for pairs of items (doors, arches, wings etc) then theyre quite competitive too.

That's a bit sobering then, I guess the S2 airbox does a pretty good job of blocking the flow behind it, so perhaps that's how I got away with it. I'm not sure what speed I was running at down the Donington straight but remember having a lot of fun with the 968 guys.

The 924T badge panels are out there, it's suprirsing how many there are when you start asking around, but they do demand a bit of a premium (I paid over the odds for mine but I needed it in a hurry). As long as you screw the plastic vents in then there should be no need to worry about them, they pretty robust things.

It was no problem to measure the filter James as it's in the boot of the 944S (or the mobile skip as it's increasingly being known), the diameter of mine was 13cm at its widest and if you haven't already I recommend running a long J pipe to it, you can lose quite a bit of torque without it (JZM proved this on their dyno and its really obvious on the road too).

I've always fancied one of these to double the air flow to the intercooler on my turbo - never quite got around to ordering one because of the import costs, and didn't really fancy trying to bring it back in my luggage
 
Just to make sure I have this right "¦

There's no point fitting a cone filter to a 944 Turbo unless you let cold air get to it by fitting something like this.

Without a vented badge panel you're actually better off with the standard airbox (though you can pop a better filter inside it).

Am I understanding that correctly?
 
Good, just checking. There seems to be an awful lot of people who think otherwise, especially on American messageboards, but it looks like simple logic to me.
 
To my thinking, even with the Lindsey panel where the airflow surface area to the intercooler is doubled, you'll still end up with 'warm' air from the intercooler being sucked in by using a cone filter as a direct replacement to the standard airbox.

To get cold air to a cone filter the best set-up is the NACA ducted headlight panel and the MAF with a right-hand bend angle in so that cone filter sits on the passenger side up against the n/s wing.
 
Well here is my current trial fit, complete with multi-coloured hoses and cable ties. Does the hose length look ok? I was running with the filter stuck straight on the end of the intake, I didn't notice a lack of torque but then again I wouldn't know any different.
I have also removed the coolant hoses to the throttle body (mostly as they were too short), not sure if its a bad idea or not but surely heating the incoming air is a bad thing.
