S2 calipers

I think so. I expect for a period of time there were some raise lettering castings for the front still available after the rears had been used up. In fact it might be the case that only the fronts ever had raised lettering and the rears always used transfers under the clear coat.
 
I don't know I'd agree it's easy. I personally wouldn't like the idea of an adaptor holding my brake calipers on and there is an issue with clearance between the disks and the steering rod end as I recall. John Sims had them and took them off because he wasn't happy with them.

Even factory use adapters installed on some models. For example 997 Turbo back calipers with PCB brakes have them. Good adapters are not any issue. I have GT2 fronts & GT3 rears with adaptes under my 951 and they work just fine. I would be more concernd with wheel adapters with new ET wheels fitted under old ET cars...
