Satnav

Hmmm... the jury's out on that one at the moment. I put in my full postcode leaving Exeter PC, there's a start I thought, it takes 7 digits! However, nearing home it became apparent that it didn't want to take me anywhere close to home but to a point about 2 miles away. I discovered you could refine the 7 digits by selecting a road name but mine isn't listed so I could get close but no cigar.

I then tried a couple of other postcodes in more built up areas. These seem ok as, after entering the postcode, you can then select road and house number - a bit long-winded but it works. It would therefore appear that it falls well short of my cheapo Tom Tom is terms of usability and database for more "out-of-the-way" places. (The Tom Tom takes me to within a few hundred metres of my house with just the post code entry). When he gets a moment Wayne is going to contact Porsche and ask a few questions! I have also suggested he tries putting my postcode in a new 991 to see where that takes you.

Oh, and when I tried the Porsche Exeter postcode the number 8 in the second part was "greyed out" and couldn't be selected! I need to play around with it some more with other postcodes but at the moment I would say it's a bit better but given that you could enter the same details, i.e street and house number with the previous 5 digit entry, after the selecting the town, and you have to do the same with the 7 digit entry, I'm not too sure what I have gained! On my cheapo, having entered the postcode, it automatically takes you to the house number screen which the PCM doesn't. I have to admit that I was expecting something a bit more sophisticated but, given Porsche history with Sat Nav, I don't for the life of me know why!

It appears there are other benefits from having the PCM upgraded to 2.24 which Clive has listed elsewhere - most noticeably the phone interface which now allows you to select SAP or HFP for yourself instead of going to the dealership and have them do it.
