SatNavUpgrade

I've just had notification that the long awaited official satnav upgrade has been announced for all MY09 cars onwards.

This update will allow customers with older PCM systems featuring 5-digit postcode address entry to upgrade to 7-digit entry.
In addition it will provide the latest 2013 road map data allowing for more accurate navigation.

This is good news and at a RRP of £149 incl. VAT is considerably less than some OPCs have been charging for the postcode only update. The map upgrade alone has been a pricey option in the past. So book your car in before they change their minds!

That is good news, I have not heard anything regarding this from Porsche in Cardiff

I had this done on Monday , at Exeter , well worth the money, lots of extras come with the upgrade. I'm very pleased.

Mine are booked in next week so will report back. My OPC is also part of the Dick Lovett group so give Cardiff a call and order one up, and mention that Swindon have had the info.

So I've had both cars updated and all is working fine including the latest maps. No surprises on the price either, £149 inc. for each.

Booked in OPC Guildford for upgrade they seemed surprised at the price £149 inc. 2013 map upgrade themselves- better value that a GT3 shelf!!

Hi Peter, Thanks for the heads up on the upgrade, had my Turbo S ( 997 ) upgraded this week ( £146.36 ) plus a set of winter wheels.

I've been overcharged by £3.59 []

First attempt they had not ordered all the disks necessary, hence had to wait for them to be shipped from Germany . Now OK

Thanks for clarifying-not great but better than having to go back because the upgrade had problems

Yes, thanks for the heads up. Having it done on my car. Dealer said it's quite a long process, loading one disc after another, a reflection I suppose of the comparatively antiquated hardware.

It seems some who've had the upgrade done are not happy. The 7 digit postcode is misdirecting them sometimes several streets from the intended destination. Anybody had it done experienced this?

Postcode accuracy is dictated by geographical location. In rural situations, a large area and number of addresses can be covered by just one postcode; whereas in an urban area, it can be the location of just one property.

Maybe this is a reason for the discrepancy.

Regards,

Clive.

Yes I understand this but how come my friends BMW sat nav system takes him straight to his own front door with 7 digit postcode but his Porsche sat nav, upgraded takes him 2 streets away?
When he puts in the postcode of our local OPC it takes him to a location 3 miles distant.

In this 'ere rural location my home postcode entry takes me to a point about 2 miles away - which is clearly a completely different postcode. The Tom Tom in the other car brings me to the door - and that's down a 300m private road! I've found the "upgraded" sat nav very hit and miss - sometimes spot on, sometimes miles out. I think if you can put in house number it's better?

I agree with you, sometimes when I put in my home post code it takes me about a mile away. This is in a build up area Cardiff bay. My TomTom gets me to the correct location.

I live in a small hamlet in the middle of nowhere and mine takes me to the door.
Not tried it anywhere else which is probably a bit daft because I know where I live !!!!!
