Scottish Indy Sale?

I've been thinking of changing my 987 to a 996 C4S/Turbo. Given the type of car I'm looking for the Indy route seem the only viable way to go. Has anyone got any recommendations or experiences which they could possibly share with regards to the afore mentioned?
Thanks

my suggestion would be prepared to travel...when I was looking for my turbo there was a lot of dross around and I had to go down south to get the car I wanted.....I also found that dealer stock was absolutely no better quality than private sales...

Personally when I bought my 996 Turbo I wanted a FSH and a Porsche warranty on the car, both I eventually got. I've had it over 4 yrs now and continued to renew the Porsche warranty which the car still has. As Greig said be prepared to travel, I went down south as well as up north but eventually bought privately in Perthshire. I'm in Edinburgh.
Good luck,
Donald.

To be honest there aren't many common faults with the turbo - as you said its the motorsport derived metzger engine which is pretty much bombproof, and its a fairly low pressure turbo (compared to the 993) so isn't straining the turbos or the engine.

When buying I'd take a ride as a passenger - does everything feel smooth, not rattles from suspension, the power delivery should be very smooth (if brutal) - check the clutch feels even and doesn't bite too low to the floor.

As for the tiptronic - it works very well with the turbo, the wall of torque suits it very nicely and makes for a very easy way to go stupidly quick.

Get your spikes on [:D]
Best go along and have a look, know nothing about them .check out any car VERY carefully .and insist on a full inspection before you buy Not like some one on here who never bothered to heed the advice or thank us for it went and bought a car and the next post was is blue smoke a bad sign

Does anyone know anything of this?:

According to this history is been around the west of scotland for a while, worth a look or run a mile?

Thanks

Yellow calipers suggest this should have ceramic brakes, but from those crappy pictures it is hard to tell if the disks are ceramic or just rather dull steel. If they are ceramic, pay VERY close attention to the condition of them, as a new set will cost half the value of the car.

That year of turbo didn't have ceramics as an option, but you could paint the calipers yellow as an option - so probably just steelies with optional paint. It also has a non-standard rear wing. However at £21K thats a whole lot of car for not a lot of money....worth a look.

I bow to Greig's superior knowledge [:D]

... but did you notice that the rear wing (in picture 4) looks like it's squint? [&:]

I think I'll give this one a miss. It maybe a good car but having made enquiries there are gaps in the service portfolio. I'm just not that brave anymore. Plus my wife would kill me for trading out a 18k mile car for a near 80k miler!

I now the previous owner of this car, I will try and find out whats the deal with it....it might still be SOR, but I'm very sure it was sold to Anniesland Trade Centre before thye went bust, and is now over there, however not sure if there is cars there for a reason or what.

Knowing the previous owner was out of the country alot I would suggest it didn't get used alot over the last few years and is unlikely to have a meticulous FSH, however it's probably not a bad car knwoing Ian who has owned several Porshes.

Only a OPC inspection would help with this car. It's had the spoiler and wheels for quite some time like that.

Thanks for the heads up. It would be interesting to find out more about the car. It does seem quite good value but I can't work out why someone would fit a rear spoiler like the one that's on it unless there's some underlying issue?

Anyone had any dealings with the Glasgow Motor Company?

I've also thought about calling Kenny Dunn in Edinburgh, again any opinions?

Thanks

Kenny Dunn is excellent, perhaps the nearest Scotland has to a proper Porsche indy, his cars are good, but sadly he's not cheap.

:)

BTW I take it you spotted this

Well that's that one out of the equation[:D]

I did see the treads on the other turbos but I'll need to go to a dealer as I need to trade/sell my current car to make things stack up[8|]

To be honest I think if you bid him in the bolloxs you'd get that car in the teens.......and I'd stick a 12 month warranty on it from someone like warrantywise or someone good for aftermarket 911's. It's the rights spec and colour and the miles arent' too bad but I can't guarantee you it's any better or worse than the next as I only know a few bits about it.

I also know that it would cost hardly anything to change that spoiler, plenty of them on ebay all the time.....and do the wheels to normal colour if you don't like them like that, about 200quid I'd say.

Why don't you go see it and decide whether the OPC inspection cost is worth it. If he's not keen to send it over there, then you have your answer.

I don't know much about the dealer other than it's a guy I've met a couple of times when I was up at the auction with my flatmate as he's in the trade and owns Daytona Automotive in Milngavie.

I took a trip over the Glasgow Motor Company to have a look. The previous poster was right about barge poles, it's a bad start when the bonnet badge is upside down with a nice circular score on the paintwork to match where it been rotating. On top of that the tinted window film is coming off, paint work has seen much better days, the after market spoiler is as straight as a £3 note, the battery cover is not present and the car is absolutely covered in filth even though it's in the show room. I didn't bother taking this any further than a visual because £21k is having a laugh.
They also have a 993 with 130K on the clock which I thought might be worth looking at. Unfortunately it needs a new head light, front end respray and the large area of rust on the front of the sills repaired. £26K is a lot of money to spend for a world of pain.
It seemed strange because some of their other cars looked ok?

Having wasted half a tank of petrol I can only conclude that the world must function in a very different way in Paisley![8|]

All stuff you could have probably sorted tbf but I understand your points. on the 996 but agree on the 993 totally as it will have other stuff to sort once you get it.

I reckon you write down a list of all the wrong doings with the 996 and presrnt it with a cheque for 15 grand and see whats said?

I'm amazed that some of these garages are actually still in business ... who on earth would buy a car like that from one of these places. A couple of years back I went to look at an Audi TT Cabrio in Mount Vernon Garage in Glasgow. It looked good on the Autotrader web pics and it was a nice spec. When I got there it was parked on an outdoor lot, and the brake disks were so rusty it had obviously not moved in a long time. I opened the door and the smell of mould would have felled an elephant, and there was a covering of green mould on all the leather surfaces, as well as condensation running off all the windows. However the piece de resistance was opening the boot to find it was an indoor swimming pool ... it was about 2" deep in water with the boot carpet actually floating in the water.

I pointed this out to the nugget in charge, and with a straight face he actually said to me "Nothing to worry about son, the valeters will deal with that!"

Unbelievable! []
