screech - bang - Oh No !

ORIGINAL: a489cb1x

Blimey, the way you was talking i thaught it was worse than that. you have hardly got a scratch on it.
Actually I said "I've now got a pushed in rear bumper and number-plate panel, and a kinked exhaust where it rammed straight into that. The front has a crease in the badge panel and the bumper pushed back far enough along the top edge that the washer jets are half under the badge panel."

which I think describes it pretty well. [;)]

I guess anyones level of 'distress' at the accident depends upon the overall condition of the vehicle before impact. This one was immaculate and original at the back end and just a bit stone-chipped at the front, so for me, who'd spent a long time keeping it that way it felt pretty awful. But as I said, it's perfectly driveable.

cheers ........... Phil

First quote came in at £2450 + VAT [&:]. Don't think the insurance company will be having that..... Waiting for second quote, but he said I was looking at " somewhere around £2k"

Still, if it's written off on economic grounds - and on my policy I have the right to keep the vehicle - I could be OK.

Phil

i hope it isnt written off, you can tell it was in immaculate condition before. I think the damage to the front looks the worst but it all looks repairable. Your bonnet badge is still shiny tho! I need a new one. Are you going to be at FR tomorrow??

Andy

Had the insurance assessor around on Friday - he asked where the damage was....[8|].... I know the front was a bit stone-chipped, but crikey, the bumper must have looked a bit bent tio him, surely?

Sorry if i made it sound worse than it was when I first posted, but believe me I felt bl00dy awful that day. Of course, these thinhs happen when you don't even need to be out in the car at all, so you feel even more annoyed that your PAJ gets a clout both ends.

Anyway, should hear this week. Will update when I know.

From your pics I'm struggling to see the number-plate panel damage to be honest. Agree with others, from the photos this should be a cheap fix. Specialist / breaker should be able to provide bumper buffers/brackets at around £20 each, and the rear end of your car looks as though it needs nothing more (although you mentioned exhaust too).

Even if the badge panel were to need replacing, this is also pretty cheap IIRC.

The quote for £2k sounds insane (when they're quoting an insurance company some of these body shops seem to have a whole different cost structure!). Good luck with trying to find a better deal - will your insurance company allow you to choose the repairer?

Well I'm told (verbally, waiting for paperwork) that it's a Cat C write-off !!!

Could work out reasonably well as they've offered a good price and salvage of the car. It won't cost me anything like as much as they're paying to put it right so I end up with cash in pocket. Actually, more like cash in other traders hands because I can now do all the other jobs I've been waiting for.....

"yes dear, of course I need to replace the chip and induction system now it's had a shunt. No you wouldn't understand the details. And the wheels may be out of true so I'd better replace them.... and I'm a bit worried about that exhaust...."

It's a pain to have it off the road for a couple more weeks just as we get into the main club season. Back end is all in bits (last Sunday mornings work), bumper brackets straightened OK, bumper polished up, just a scar low down on LH side. Need to rub down crack in paint and respray a small area directly below number plate. Job done at rear [:)]

Front was stone-chipped anyway so I'll get that sorted at same time, good job i didn't have it done a few months ago when I first planned to [:)]

Phil, in your euphoria, don't forget this, from a previous post of mine, of what was necessary for me to re-register the ebay special. I now have a non-transferrable registration number.

At cat C the DVLA will retain the V5 for the registration mark, and you should be able to buy the car back fron the insurance company, then effect repair on it yourself, like I did with mine. You then have make an appointment to take the car to an approved testing station, which is easy enough to find from the DVLA's website, where they will verify the identity of the car, by checking front and rear vin plates, bulkheads and generally crawl around under it to make sure it is not a ringer or two cars made into one. They also check that it has been repaired to a roadworthy standard. When the testing station is satified that the criteria have been met, they will then issue a certificate of authorisation which will allow you to apply for the V5 for the registration mark. I did say that I hoped it wouldn't come to this for you, but as I have said, re-registering a Cat C is no big deal, but there is a proper procedure now.

Thanks Nutter,

I'd read your detail in the previous message and have all the detail off DVLA and VOSA websites. I'll ley everyone know how things progress, as the information you get from various people at the insurance co. do vary.

It's all coming back together now. I'll post an update and give feedback on the new S2 style front when I get a chance, but generally I'm happy with it. I've also been spending like a loony as a bit of therapy for not being able to drive the car - watch for the signature to grow as the following get fitted over the coming weeks....

Promax chip/filter/plugs [:)]
Throttle Response cam
B&M short-shifter
16" Cup 1's [:)] [:)]
A few aluminium bits to brighten up the interior [8|]
Thinking about some Cobra bucket seats that a local owner has removed from his 944 (have an idea to sprint the car next year in the local series). Don't want to turn it into too 'racey' a car though - the family still want to come out in it.

I must say I like the look of it de-badged. That's me though, hate fussy and cluttered things - smooth and clean's the way to go [8|]

Update on front-end here

VIC applied for - the wait is about 4 weeks everywhere. Never imagined it'd take that long or would have applied earlier.
  • Rear of car all finished.
  • Cup 1's trial fitted, I can confirm 8x16's fit the back of an 'S' [:)]
  • Short-shift gearlever nearly sorted - needs small mod [:-]
waiting to get familiar with driving it again before I do the Promax bits. Have got new rear disks at last, oh and a 3-spoke steering wheel. Must stop spending now, therapy over, desperate to drive !!! [] [] []
