Scripted door handles

How unusual are these?
There are a set on pH which seem quite expensive for not being in great shape and I have read adverts where they are listed as a "feature". They only open the doors after all but I just wondered if they were an option or only on early or late cars.

They go for lots of money because they can also be made to fit VW golfs and are desired by the golf boys due to the Porsche connection.

As far as i know they were fitted to most oval dash cars (all models) upto about 89-90 when the lost the porsche logo, as jon has said they usually end up polished chrome on golfs which has pushed the price up the same as porsche wheels !!

These were a standard fitment on all 944s from oval dash onwards. Also on 924S from 86 on.

I should also have said that this was Porsche changed from using VW door handles to their own design - hence the script.

I had them on both of my 1986 and 1988 944 Luxs but not on my 1991 944S2! Which is a little disapointing really as they look rather smart compared to a plain handle [:(]

I viewed 3 S2's before buying my turbo and none of them had the scripted door handles. My car does have them. So maybe they were an option?

My 1990 S2 did'nt have them either as they stopped fitting them around 89-90 and went for the plain ones instead.

I do indeed stand corrected then. I assumed they were on all 944s until 93 and the advent of 968. Having said that, now that I really think about it, my 92 944S2 didn't have them...... I remember ooing and aahing over them on a 924S at the 1986 motorshow - that and the 'new fangled' smooth rain gutters.....

I've checked the 1990 price list now, and there was no option listed for the door handles. hmmm....curious indeed...

I've go them on my '87 Lux but not on my '89 Turbo. Quite fancy swapping them over actually"”does anyone know how easy or difficult a job that is?

What with getting married and going on honeymoon I've not had the Lux's front end repaired after it's accident yet. It'll sell easily enough once that's done, hopefully.

I have a scripted one on my drivers door but not the passenger side, probably fitted later as mine is a 2.5 1983

Plain ones on my '87 turbo. In fact I think they are quite rare - I certainly havn't noticed them on the majority of 944's and 924's i've ever seen so I don't think they were ever standard fittment. Maybe they were part of an upgrade package specc'd from new or something along those lines.

There was a chap on ebay selling them for a good while. Not sure where he sourced them from - I always presumed he just took plain ones and had a small modlers milling machine in his shed and was milling the script in.

Funnily enough mine is the other way round. The Passengers one is upside down so I presume is actually a drivers side one!
