Seam Welded RS...??

HELLO DES & Yoda

comparison then in SW London - as the thought of driving the car over to Bromley []
how about a cheeky ruby whilst we're at it?

dates avail over next couple of weeks: 28/29/2/10/12

welcome to do the comparison at my house as theres loads of room in the drive and with the gates closed people won't be able to see us in our bobble hats and overcoats as we compare seam welding....

or quite happy to meet at a pub with a car park and look like saddos there

anyone local with a standard C2 to compare??

edited to say that the [] was not about Bromley which I am sure is a lovely place, but about the thought of bumping and grinding across town in the car

Hi Matt

Where do you live, I can drive over from Chiswick if that is easier for you. Mon 2 Aug (at yours) looks clear for me or we could meet at the Ace Cafe on Tue 10 Aug for the classic car night. Full of saddos and good chance of finding another 911 for comparison. How about making it a "bring your 964 RS out if you live near London night"?

Let me know which you prefer and send me your address etc.

I'll pack my anorak and jotters pad plus digital camera for Des.

Regards

I don't have the info for the 993 but can remember reading some press releases about it when the cars were new, but have to admit nothing specific was mentioned. I don't want to get in the same arguement on the 993RS, thanks.
With regards to the captive nuts mentioned in Mark's post this is part of the modified rear section as mentioned in the service info technik. This panel differs from the standard panel in a few ways one of which is the removal of the belt fittings and fittings for the seats.
I am not sure what comparing shells is going to acheive. First of, many RS's have been accident repaired at some time in their lives so welds often get changed, modified or improved(even cars U might think have never been touched). Particularly Cup cars get shunted and bumped in the course of racing, it would make sense for teams to improve stiffness in key areas. Also any seams are likely to be covered with caulking or sealer. Both C2/C4 shells and the RS have seam welds in places. These are common to all variants of shell. Lastly as the RS uses the high pressure braking system(accumulator and electric pump) of the C4 it "may" be more correct to talk of C4 shells although in truth both shells are virtually the same.
Incidently my own RS has the non captive nut rear panel. Let's see some proper info from Porsche!

Thus a real RS shell Laurence, would be interesting to hear from anyone with a very late production car to see if they have the non captive nut rear panel as the rumour was they ran out of RS shells and used the C2 shells.........the myths continue[&:]

I'm sure I saw a post elsewhere that the "Gorilla" on the car park entrance won't let Porsche into car park on Classic Night. Dont fancy just leaving it in the street ? If anyone knows better, please tell as I might slide on down from MK but only if good parking avail

Allan

There is a Gorrila on the gate but last month there was plenty of parking on the road adjacent to the Ace Cafe. Lots of nice cars parked there so I think it should be safe. If you didn't want to park on the street, there is a retail unit next door which has a car park and is a little more out of the way and we can use that.
