We use Claire's FIAT Seicento Sporting Abarth for our to-and-from-work/shopping/etc car. It is like driving a go-cart (including the bit where you bounce up-and-down wishing it would accellerate a bit quicker[
The Boxster is so taut though - driving it everyday would be nice - but it gives you an appreciation of what other cars cannot do when you don't drive the Porsche every day.

If I drive it after the Boxster it feels like driving a luxury-liner, but I do like it a lot. The Boxster was my mid-life crisis purchase, a toy that I've been drooling over for 10 years, which I sometimes feel stupid for owning, especially as our combined yearly mileage is only about 5K, but every time I drive it I know why I bought it and why I'm going to keep it, no matter how unnecessary it is in reality.

How do people sort the insurance - is it possible to get both cars on the one policy ( bearing in mind that if it is 'owner only driver' I cant drive 2 cars at once) ?
For things too big for the Porker, we use our BMW 330i SE Touring (auto), which has been a paragon of reliability. That will probably be replaced this autumn or next Jan by the new twin-turbo 335i Tourer, or maybe an RS4 Avant if they make it with DSG.
Porsches- Love 'em - Use 'em and to hang with the depreciation!!

We do have the backup of a Renault Clio though. There are times when the Box just can't handle it; taking the cats to the cattery, lugging large things around, carrying curtain poles (when it's raining), you know the sort of thing.

I hate taking Otto ( boxster ) shopping as someone always parks next to him, no matter how far away from other cars I park. He is five years old in April and has only done 18,000 miles, so he is like new. Best thing I ever did was get a second car for myself.

However, we need a four-seat saloon for everyday travel and transporting our grandchildren, but this does not mean it can't be fun too. We chose a BMW 325 - a cracker despite JC's comments about its looks. A real driver's car with 215 bhp, 0-62 in 7.0, top speed 152, PSM look-alike, iDrive and really comfortable. It has all the gizmos, like auto headlights, rain sensors, SatNav, bluetooth, proper park assist etc, all on the road for under £30K.
We've not had a single problem, and unlike our Boxster's second class PCM the Bimmer's TMC actually works in the UK!
But for the Alps, Dolomites, Picos Europa it has to be the Porker. [

The Leon has the A3 dash and sports suspension with the more pokey PD 150,also has cruise and 6cd. Because the new one is out and those cars with those engines had to be got rid of or registered before Jan 1st got all the money off.
Some dealers are trying to get the same money for 05 and 54 plates as we paid for ours new.
It hasn't got the bits and bobs you get in the Audi or VW but it is the mileage car and does a job.
Who ever is going the furthest that day takes the Leon ! This can lead to getting out of maps and route milage checks etc ![
Also have an old '95 Audi Coupe 2.0e done 167,800 miles which I took back off my neighbour after I sold it him 3 years ago.Doesn't use a drop of oil and runs great. It's been brill for the project work on the house carting stuff to the tip. Also good for leaving at the pub when early doors turns into impromtu late can't find the doors on Fridays !![&:]
Last week had a Renault Clio V6 for a few days before moving it on. Now can I please get the Boxster to sound like that ![8D]
Totally agree on using the Porsche as much as poss. No good when left. Ours had been left a bit so jumped in it Friday before Xmas in all that rain and did 170 miles to MK/Towcester/Buckingham/Leicester. Got a bit twitchy in all the water on the M1 and round all those b****y islands in MK but great fun.
Happy New Year

Marsh Private Clients insured me a year or so ago for the 'second car ' with full no claims but no protected no clims with my porsche insurance company. This year at renewal I got the Protected No claims so it was worth it as I now have two full no claims policies which I can move to whoever I wish either together or seperately. £7)0 Boxster £250 Polo.

3 kiddies, all in full childseats, means it's a Saab 9-5 Estate, 3.0TiD, and it's still a tight squeeze. It's a fabulous car for family motoring, big smooth v6 diesel with tonnes of torque and none of that annoying diesel rattle. It goes like a bat out of hell in a straight-line, probably faster than the Boxster between 50 and 100, it has the same power as the 9-5 Aero, which Mr Clarkson proved can beat your basic 911 from 50 to 90 (in a straight line). It has good grip but, in standard form, far too much body roll for spirited driving, especially with the kids in the car, as it usually results in a vomit-fest.

Don't call it a mid-life crisis; it's a mid-life statement!
