Second Cars

My 987S is my daily driver and I have racked up 10K miles already since March 1st 2005.

Just replaced rear tyres so I drive it like it should be.

Would be nice to have it as "weekend" car but what a waste that would be.....would need a decent practical car for the week...maybe a 997!

Why pay £40K+ for a car an then leave it on the drive???[:D]

Other car is A4 Avant Quattro for family duty........but it seems so slow!

The Boxster is my daily commuter, shopper and driver, but my husband drives a Skoda Octavia (most pre-owned car for the money, ever) to eat up motorway miles. It also gets used for tasks beyond the Boxster's scope, such as picking up more than one friend or family member from the airport (heck why do they come in twos and threes when they know I have a two-seater?).

Another proud owner of a Skoda Octavia estate 1.9 tdi had the car 3 years and the only fault a rear light bulb, would buy another ,I have had about every car you can name in 43 years of motoring and this is the most reliable even the Boxster I had was in for faults under warranty , if you can see past the badge this is the car to own.

If you see past the badge it's a Volkswagen who have been known to push out a decent car or two!

Boxster is used in preference to the second car - does about 3 times the mileage of the V70, which was my previous company car. Volvo used by better half, and when I have more than 1 passenger, or rubbish for the dump, or camping etc.

Cayman S is my fun car after swapping the 997S. Family car is BMW 530d Touring and my commute car is a Smart City Coupe (great fun with paddle shift gearchange).
Really appreciate the Cayman after driving the Smart all week.

USE IT DAILY & ENJOY IT !

I use mine daily for commuting in London in all weathers - and sometimes the shopping. I'm still surprised how many Boxters I see daily commuting on the roads - a testamony to the hood and comfort. I have a family car - Golf Auto for family use and dropping kids of to school, very comfortable - but I still rack up more miles in the Boxter even with its stiff M030 suspension.

The Boxter gets a hose down Thurs & Sundays to keep the alloys clean and also underbody to get rid of salt during winter. I think the engine seals (and engine) will last longer and run in better with often use rather than moth balling in a garage as then seals tend to get stiff and other parts such as discs ,calipers, exhausts can corrode.

Enjoy it - its a car after all - not a ming vase !

Interesting to hear your comment regaeding the number of Boxsters you see on the daily commute. In my experience living in North Worcestershire / South Birmingham area I hardly ever see a Boxster, its quite rare and exciting to actually see one! However, I do a lot of travelling with work and when I am in and around London the amount of Boxsters and Porsches in general you see increases greatly becoming almost commonplace! How do others find this in their areas? There is a fellow who lives not far from us here and that pretty much is the only Boxster we ever see and his is obviously used daily - its normally 'bumped' up the kerb and dirty so he is using his as it should be and not treating it as if it was a ming vase.
