If you are not going to use the tyres that often,dunlops will keeping coming back in from old and hard up to 3 years old
Mich cups the best track day tyre for grip and lap times with out to many heat cycles ,then they start to go hard and loose grip.
As mel says kuhmo are great also.

I used Avon slicks on my 64RS as they are crossply thus no need for big camber chanes , worked a treat and you can fit all the wheels in the car by removing the passenger seat inverting it and placing on top of the wheels. Awesome results though as the 64 RS was born to run slicks , although with no roll cage the chassis used to bend and creak abit when loaded up.....
Why do tyres go 'off', is it exposure to sunlight or is it simply an unavoidable ageing process?. Has anyone tried tyre softeners as seen on Demon Tweeks on older tyres?

I was told by Toyo that so long as I keep them cool, comparatively dry and dark, they will be OK.
I believe it's the aromatic oils that do evaporate, and whilst softeners may work, they can't balance the original mix of oils.
However, vis-a-vis PS Cups being abandoned in 17", what will become the control tyre for the Porsche Club Championship 964 and 968's ??
I really do find Toyos and very good wet/dry compromise, but am sure that PS Cups are superior in the dry. For what it's worth, I've been data-logged in a 964RS on Toyos at 1.3g lateral and in a 993RS on PS Cups at 1.5g lateral -- but on a banked hairpin. Part of this must be the superiority of the 993 rear suspension frame ...
