Angusr - after recommendations from many people here, my car went to Hartech. The IMS in my car failed whilst I was sitting at a set of traffic lights and I switched it off immediately.
Because of this there wasn't a huge amount of extra damage as opposed to what would have happened if I was on the motorway at the time.
Even so, there were a number of repairs that were sensible to do while the engine was apart and so the total cost came to around £8k.
