Hi

please can someone advise me on where to get my 993 C4 96' serviced I have just been quoted £520 for a 36k service from Porsche in Edinburgh, this is my first time servicing this car, is this reasonable compared to an independent, any views would be appreciated. Also where/when do you guys meet and how do I become a member instead of a guest as I would like meet other owners.

Thanks in advance for your help!

Welcome Imo

Come along to our Edinburgh meeting on Thursday 3rd Feb at the Hawes South Queensfery at 8pm ..Our Regional RO should be on hand to give you details on how to join .we are a friendly bunch As to the service you could try Brian Miller on 0131 443 7806 or Motortune on 01501 822247 If you are a PCGB member you can get a discount on parts from the OPC and see if you can get a reduced labour rate you can only ask.

I'd certainly recommend OPC Edinburgh if you're not going to use an Independent. I've had no experience as yet of any of the independent specialists in Edinburgh & Lothians but I've heard good reports about them.

OPC Edinburgh is a perfect example of how an OPC should be. Great bunch of guys and they have always bent over backwards for me. Unfortunately I work in London and the OPC experience down here isn't as good, plus they have the balls to charge extra for the same work.

An example of the difference in customer service attitude: When booking a service "Would it be possible to get a loan service car?" "Don't be silly Sir!" First 12K service at OPC Edinburgh when it was Glenvarigill, my loaner for the day was a brand new Audi A4 Quattro.

Glad you have had a good service from Edinburgh OPC ..I have to say I have had no personel dealings with them as far as serviceing goes ,but they organized a great visit and dealer tour for us when I was the RO last year. I think they have a better way with people than some OPC's..

Brian,

Down here in London most franchised prestigious dealerships appear to have a "greed is good policy" and ultimately the customer experience and service suffers as a result of this. Stuff you'd take for granted like: customer goodwill / courtesy valet / loan service car / chauffer for service drop-off & pick-up / doing the repair 100% right the first time"¦all seem to be a real effort!

Prior to importing my Boxster from Stuttgart, I owned BMW's and always used Eastern BMW Edinburgh for servicing. Like Edinburgh OPC, Eastern always provided a first class service. I did use BMW's centres in the south east for some warranty work & a minor body shop repair but wasn't that impressed so continued to use Eastern for the main servicing.

From my BMW & Porsche ownership, I can honestly say that I've always received superior service north of the border. However, I've since discovered a good BMW centre [Sytner] for my girlfriend's car, on the outskirts of London/Essex that has impressed me so far. My girlfriend had to upgrade her 3 series saloon to a 5 series touring last year after the arrival of our baby daughter, to accommodate the pram & extra baby luggage. Anyway, at the time of typing, the car is actually over there awaiting collection on Saturday morning. After getting home from the nursery run on Wed morning, one of the balloons [pneumatic bezels] on the self-levelling rear suspension exploded resulting in the rear-end listing. Car was recovered to the "new local" BMW centre and despite 3 mechanics being off sick all week and a backlog of around 40 cars, they managed to complete the repair late Fri afternoon. I'm sure the service manager took pity on my g/f or was amused by her wit

I'm hoping to relocate back to Scotland later this year and will have more time to particate in club events now that I'm finally getting round to PCGB membership.

Andy,

You might then be interested to know that the OPC in Edinburgh, which was owned by Glenvarigill, has recently been taken over by the Sytner group.

Have to agree with Brian, their club day was excellent, most enjoyable.

As for the difference in service north and south of the border ... well let's just keep that to ourselves shall we [;)] ... otherwise everyone will want to move up here [:D]
