Shell Numbers

The clearly readable numbers on bonnet and engine cover are both 5218. Whether there is an indistinct number infront of these I'm not too sure.

Chassis no 1285

Anyone going to be at Silverstone tomorrow (11th)? If so see you there.

Nick

I can confirm mine all match and match up with the info I got from Porsche(i have a print out of the production number, Vin, colour etc) [:)] I'm not sure about the sensibility of broadcasting the actual numbers, so i'll refrain.

All this information is available at any show where the engine lid or bonnet is open.

Chassis number in the screen etc

Also anyone can easily obtain a VIN and engine number for any car by undertaking a HPI check with the vehicle's registration number.

Having said that, I too wouldn't publish my VIN/engine numbers on the internet - but at Silverstone Classic I will have them on an 'info sheet' in the window as the information is easily obtainable from HPI anyway as above (unless we all agree that this isn't sensible??)

Laurence,
This is exactly what I was asking, can we cross reference these numbers to the chassis number in some form? Your response suggests that Porsche do indeed keep a record of this.
Without telling us your numbers, could you explain what they are referred to on the "Porsche print out", are your lids matching your shell which is specified as a build number or a shell number at Porsche?
Cheers
Rick

on the print out the production number is so labelled. I would suggest that you won't get access to this info from Porsche as it's too sensitive and too time consuming for them to cross reference the data. This is the sort of thing a "club Historian" is made for, someone who could liase with Porsche and study their archive. Not something that is likely to happen anytime soon.

As Laurence pointed out to me yesterday.....the number should tally with the very first set of numbers on the sticky label found both under your hood and in the service book. This will tie up your Chassis No. to your shell No.

Thanks boys... now given I don't have the original log book/stickers as that went the way of my VIN onto the race car built from bits that the prior owner wanted to make road legal... I am stitched again... you don't see Porsche being persuaded for the right amount of silver crossing their palms? Nothing exists like the Ferrari originality inspections?
Cheers

Clearly this is a lot of grief for you.

If I were you I'd get the car sold and start again.

Call me I may beable to help find a buyer[;)]

You have no idea Lee! Problem is I need more details on the originality as the French "powers that be" insisted that I got a certificate of originality from Porsche France. The liasion man there, who I am afraid can only be described as an obnoxious ***t, took one look at the chassis number (RS C/S) and decreed that it was a racing car and therefore not considered suitable for the road by them!!!! Given I may have ommited to point out the twin turboladers on the paperwork I fired into him I am a bit stuffed now... can't road register it without more paperwork and hoops to jump thru... may have to take it back to Blighty or to Switzerland to register... but not sure what the legality of roaming around on old German export plates is...

Well to continue this theme... the Ally lid I've just bought has 44433 on it... in case anyone out there has the rear lid to match ;-)

I also picked up a copy of the PET at the weekend, however can't find any reference to the 3.8 litre engine or the 3.8 RS in it anywhere? Am I looking in the wrong place or were they manufactured in too small numbers to be worth putting on the disk?
