Shell V-Power is here - Comments?

Yep. My local has changed all Optimax pumps to V Power. Boss says Opti is being totally phased out. V Power price here is the same as Opti - nice little bonus to find a UK retail outlet that does not seem to be whacking the price up for a new product.

Well, they would have whacked the price up if it wasn't for the competition from the supermarket . So keep Tesco99 in business if you want the V-Power prices to stay reasonable... [;)]

The only "real test" is to perform back to back tests on an accurate rolling road - this eliminates the physcological expectation of more horsepower.

I filled up with V-Power the day after the anouncement by Shell. I commented to the garage owner that he had the new petrol in so soon after the announcement and his comment was "same petrol, new name". It may be that we don't actually have the new 99 octane stuff yet and certainly filling up in France last week every V-Power pump said 98 octane, not 99.

The name is just marketing as we all know ... I think V-power is 100 Octane in Germany ... But if I had the time I bet we are still using 98 optimax ... if must take a while to flush the tanks at a Petrol station.

I actually have 20L of Optimax ... I bet if I had it tested it will be the same as what comes out of the pump today.

I wonder how much this would 'cost' shell if the truth was know .....any Shell employees on here

...or maybe you were filling up with V-Power 99 well before it was announced, so at the time of announcement everyone was fully V-Power; there is no point loosing sleep over it, you are not paying any more for it or mixing it with Optimax is not going to damage or make any dramatic difference in your car...

RichardLW: French V-Power has always been 98 and Germany V-Power 100... we would have probably had a simple name change with V-Power 98 if it wasn't for the competition from Tesco99...
