Short shifter

I am considering getting a short shifter from Lindsay Racing for my S2 and wonder if anyone has installed one or similar.

Also, apart from the 25%-30% throw gain, are there any other pros and cons of replacing the original shifter with a quick/short shifter.

Are there any other short shifters with similar quality and price?
 
Hi Charles, How much do they want at Lindsay? and is it the kit for the gear box end or the actual leaver linkage in the car? I have heard that Jon Mitchell's make there own which has a good reputation, i have been thinking of getting one of these my self but had been put off by all the apparent hassle of constant adjustments which people claim they need every couple of thousand miles...I think if i could get one at a good price i would give it ago though ... I know a one guy on this forum who has one but his pc must had broken down...!JS..[:)]
 
I should be fitting the above item in the next month, it is certainly a nicely made bit of kit. I will let you know
how easy/difficult it is to fit.
 
I think the one from Lindsay and Porsche Shop are of the linkage type where the Schnell (on fleabay) is the proper gearbox one.

Is it easy to fit the Schnell one yourself and do you need special tools?
 
To be honest .
The gearlever type, i dont rate at all.
If you going to do a job, then do it properly, Is my motto....
The box end one isnt difficult, its just getting to it.. Its far better with the box removed.. Not that hard to do, just time consuming....
 
Are these easy to fit to the box while still in the car, do you need a ramp or could i do this on my back ? from the link above the picture looks like its the whole gear leaver in side the car or am i mistaken ?
 
It is the linkage that is bolted onto the top of the gearbox. You will get a stiffer change with these short shift kits which may or may not be to your liking. This one on ebay looks pretty good, I might be tempted myself.
 
Took advantage of the price... 55 notes delivered, so i purchased one, i think the cheapest price i got in the uk was 150.Dose anybody no if i need the car up in the air and is it bolt off bolt on ?
 
Its better if the car is up in the air.. Yes it should be bolt on bolt off. BUT as the "old" one has been there for over 15 or so years, expect some seized nuts etc...
Like i said, there aint much room in there though...Youl be better removing your rear exhaust aswell...+ Theres even more room if you take off the passenger side drive shaft....
Youl soon see when you get the car in the air...
 
Took delivery of the short shifter yesterday and it looks to be of good quality,been under the car and it looks like a 15 min job providing the rusty nuts and bolts don't give me to much stress... sprayed some wd40 on them any how with the hope it might help free them off for next weekend...dose anybody know if these need any sort of adjustment once fitted as they look like there's nothing to adjust once fitted ? or am i wrong again ?[FONT=verdana,geneva"]

I have also ordered one from US which should arrive this week. Would like to hear from your experience fitting it.
 
Wont be fitting till next weekend now but as soon as i do i will post all the info, just need to know it theres any adjustment needed once fitted...

Ive had the Short Shift installed about 18 months... Not experienced any stiffness, just nice crisp clean shifts every time.. Well RECOMENDED...
 
That was fun... well what thought would be a half hour job turned into a two hour nightmare, well may be not that bad but when ever i seem to work on my cars nothing ever goes smoothly, any how i put the rear of the car up on two ramps and started removing the old linkage which is only in place with two 13 mils and one 10 mil... any how this went well no nuts or bolts sheering off but when it came to sliding the linkage off the top gearbox pin it wouldn't budge ( it might as well had been was welded on [X(] ) so i then had to put it all back together again and head to my mates garage where i could get the car on a proper ramp and get the right tools around me...anyway i ended up having to cut the old linkage off the gearbox pin with an air saw, i then had to cut about 1/4 of an inch off the new linkage pin as it was to long to fit into the gear stick linkage, with this done it all went back together smoothly and after that and with a little help from a friend adjusting it (me in the car and him underneath nipping up the top 13 mil nut on the linkage ) i could select all my gears. [:)][FONT=verdana,geneva"] [FONT=verdana,geneva"]The result is 100% better than the old one, much more sharper change which feels not stiff but really nice and tight with the gears much closer together.[FONT=verdana,geneva"]Upon inspecting the old linkage you can see just how badly the joints are worn which is obviously where the slackness comes from but i guess the car is nearly 18 years old so cant complain, any how i would defiantly recommend this product and at the price i paid im well chuffed.[;)][FONT=verdana,geneva"]

I fitted the one from ebay today, It took about an 1.5 hours but the car was on ramps and I had the drive
shaft and exhaust off as well. I had to use a puller to get the old selector off the car, and I undid the 17mm bolt at the top of the gearbox so that I could work on the whole selector off the car. The new part needed quite a bit of re-working the hole in the main shaft was drilled in the wrong place and the main connector was very tightly milled, but not well finished and needed de-burring, once this re-working was done it went back together fairly easily.

I have not driven the car yet, but the shift is a lot shorter and all 5 gears + reverse were present and correct.
