Should I buy it?

I'd hit him on the money because of the service book if you do buy it. It's not exactly expensive if it's a nice one, but it's not cheap either and that is a flaw.

There are still nice cars out there and if you miss this one you will find another, possibly not next week, but you will.

I'm not exactly sure, he tells me it's one of about 70 built in RHD, all black, lightweight panels and close-ration gearbox etc... Has done 190,000 though and is a little rough around the edges

The 70 sounds like the oft-quoted UK allocation of Silver Roses. I'm lost on the all black, lighter panels, etc. bit though.

Yup, that amused me as well.

Unless (and here I am shooting in the dark) he is referring to a ClubSport (which was mentioned on here a few days ago.)

Or he is a slightly confused seller. Which is not uncommon.

There were no 944 ClubSports in the UK (if at all - I think if they existed they'd have been S2s).

There are a handful of obscure "limited edition" cars put together by Porsche Cars GB for various reasons, but they didn't ever go beyond a few options included and maybe a stripe or something. I've never heard of anything like the description. There were a handful of Silver Rose spec cars in black because Porsche realised people didn't especially want dirty/faded metallic pink paint with pink tartan interior and allowed the last of them to be any colour the buyer wanted. I looked at a black one at Northway when I was buying mine for example. They oinly have a lighter windscreen though, not panels, and they are recognisable by the lack of sunroof and usually having "Studio" cloth non-sport seats. The Silver Rose spec was very odd and in a lot of ways not desirable which I'm sure is the reason the cars don't carry any premium these days - that and not having a build number plaque on the dash.

Now that's odd because I am sure there was a mention of a 'Club Sport' spec on here a couple of days ago.

I could well be losing the few marbles I have left though.

ETA: Nope, those rattling noises WEREN'T the last few marbles running away (although they could have been the loose baffles in my silencer!)

The thread I was thinking about is here:

A genuine seller will be happy for you to have it inspected and I would recommend JZ Machtech near Hemel Hempstead but I think you will struggle before his deadline. Don't be rushed into a purchase because even though it is getting harder to find a genuinely good 944 they are still out there.

Turbo S is nothing to get worked up about and there were never any 944 ClubSports in the UK market.

Turbo S with .......Perhaps lighter coloured panels......... it was a very light pink[:D][:D][:D]

Hey, your not going to be married to it, if its a pup you can sell her - bitches make more money too! [8|]

Good luck bennyboy

But that thread basically said there isn't one didn't it, Oli?
It didn't come to any conclusions. It said there is some (slightly elusive) M637 spec, which may or may not equate to a Club Sport, or a Cup car, but no-one seemed too sure.

Back to the topic of this thread - it sounds like the thing that BennyBoy's contact is selling is just about as unidentified as well ...

Well, I didn't spot the 637 code, but it did have no sunroof, cloth seats and forged rims? Picking the other one up on saturday...!

Now that is good news - very glad to hear it!

Welcome to 944 ownership!

(You'll have to change your sig now.)

Ah, you want some nice 16" D90's on that, I tell you what I'll swap you mine for the split rims in the picture [;)]

That is a nice looking 944. I've become very much a metallic black fan recently and I'm not finding it nearly as difficult to keep clean as straight black (not that I can tell which it is from the picture) and it has some other nice touches. I'm not a big fan of coloured brakes and whicl I think they'd look better in black they also look fine in red.

How on earth can you tell what colour brakes he's got from that photo? It comes out slightly smaller than a (large) postage stamp on my computer! (Even when I click on it and display it in another window!)

Nice car, for sure!
