should I use my car in the rain?

Not more than a rinse with tap water. Anyway they're priced the same at any car wash around here.
 
LSD allows controlling sideways moments. No LSD allows heart-in-mouth moments.
 
LSD is scary in the wet. Plenty of sideways action.

Non-LSD spins all of the power away on the inside wheel out of a corner.

Annoying when you're trying to be Nigel Mansel in the wet and do some opposite locking (not that I would be so foolish. Or have a tash).

LSD also causes the front wheels to "stick and release" when reversing off my drive, making it sound like the steerings broke.

A button would be nice to lock it when you want to fool around (or go fast (er))
 
Sounds more like axle tramp than the LSD - are the wheels spinning (trying to break traction) when this is happening?

The "stick and slip" you get from the front wheels with the LSD only seems to happen in reverse (although I guess it could happen gong forward?), and only on or near full lock at parking speeds.

A simple check for LSD - Floor the throttle while at a T Junction, turning left, in the wet. If the backend steps out, LSD is in operation. If you hold your line, while not accelerating very fast and hearing the wheels spinning, then no LSD (the spinning will be the inside rear wheel).

Obviously make sure you're on a private road with no other traffic to scare!
 
Hi Phil its Tom from Hull-I drive my s2 soft top everyday except in the snow! But the snow has usualy fell on Leeds before it reaches us! Drive it everyday-aving said that my car is going into the spray bay for a week to have the lower wheel arches retreated and the wheels refinished. It seems the lower arches are a weak spot due to the lack of mud flaps. Keep driving-Tom

You can get very neat little spatlet things; Martyn Cockram had some on his car when I saw it at Le Mans and thye actually looked really good as well as protecting the bit that gets blasted. I meant to try to find them but never did. Maybe he can tell us where he got them (guessing Germany...)

Hi Tom - would be interested to know where you are taking it to have the work done, and how much it is costing. I have decided that i too am going to have to get the bottom arches painted

would certianly be interested to know about the arch protectors/ flaps if anyone knows about them
 
Hi Phil its Tom .My mate is going to do the work.He has just got a new spray bay 12 miles east of Hull.He is an excellant sprayer/ body repairer with over 20 years experience.With regards to cost -it will probably not be very much due to been a mate. The down side is he has given me a corsa! Would be interested in the protectors if you find the supplier.Cheers Tom

Oi - this is a discussion for proper road cars that get used all the time [;)]

Seriously I thought the same as you when I first heard, but seeing them in the flesh, these ones are tiny and very discrete (especially on a dark coloured car)

Anyway, the 959 Paris-Dakar and many 911 rally cars had them [:)]

Bit of a word of warning about mud flaps. They do stop the sill from getting blasted, but also collect mud and stuff behind them. I've had two E36 3-Series BMW's that have both suffered lower wing rot well before time becuase they had mudflaps fitted. When I asked the dealer, they said it was a common problem on cars with mudfalps fitted, but they never saw any problems from cars that didn't.

For this reason, I only fit mudflaps where they are fitted to plastic bits now (i.e the rears).
 
Fair point but the 944 has a "crap trap" built in to the body at the bottom of the wheelarch and we all clean that out regularly already, don't we?
 
We do. And the 3 series has the same thing (BMW modified the wings in later models to try and get rid of it, but it still gathers!)

I think most of the problem is because it gets trapped behind, and doen't ever dry out. Also when the mudflaps are on, the only way to clean behind them is to take them off.
