Needed to call out Porsche Assist a couple of weeks ago - Man from the RAC duely arrived - said he couldn't do anything to help but that the OPC was only a couple of miles away so we managed to struggle there. Hire car delivered there (150 miles from home at the time) left the Cayenne to be fixed (still there - another story!) and continued journey home.

Point of post is to say always phone Porsche Assist first. Had we struggled straight to the OPC, apparently Porsche Assist would not have provided the replacement car and on friday afternoon the OPC couldn't provide a replacement - could have been stranded.

Hi Tony

Advice noted in case it ever happens to me - thanks. Out of interest what was the problem with the car and how old is it?

Best - Robin

p.s. I am a PCGB member although my forum entry seems to deny that I am :-(

Robin,
Problem turned out to be the gearbox control module. first it wouldn't stay in top gear then intermitently lost other gears - eventually loosing everything. Problem diminshed if car allowed to cool down.No warning lights or message but OBD diagnostic showed a prolem with gearbox oil pressure, Porsche suggested changing an oil pressure switch this made no difference so gearbox control module changed. Car is 18 months old, 13K miles and this has been the only problem.
