Sills: What it Cost & Where

:thumb: Im hoping that Paul will edit out a lot of the chat from the thread at some point: leaving posts like this.

I make that £600 - £650 for original Porsche repair panels and proper repair work (obviously with paint on top, but thats a separate matter, as people usually have other work done too).

I doubt Paul will do it: it's your thread, and if you want to cut an paste it all together into a single, consolidated, edited posting, as I did to with the insurance thread (and will shortly have to again) then you should ask him if he might make that a sticky too.

I have a friend in the trade who did a huge amount of work to my S2 over the winter or it would never have passed the MOT. It went in with both sills bubbling, both rear quarter panels bubbling and one front wing bubbling. One side had the inner and outer sills replaced with new Porsche items, the other side just needed the outer. The wing was replaced with a new Porsche item. Both rear quarters had patch panels made for the section that joins onto the sill. We also discovered some bubbling round the top of the screen and one of the doors had some bubbles too.

After all the remedial work was done he ended up spraying the entire car except the back bumper and panel between the tail lights. He estimated over 50 hours of labour over a 3 month period as he fitted in between full price paying customers. Total cost to me was £1200 cash for the friend and £700 to Porsche for the parts. A full retail price would have been twice that.

The car looks better now than when I bought it in 1998 which was 120,000 miles ago (but it's still not perfect [;)] )

I will: thank you.

£650 both sides at my local bodyshop (Swan Autos in Acton, W3).
Not replacement but a proper structural repair with new metal, stone chip and paint.
Outer sills were cosmetically good but full of filler and with a big hole just under the vent in the nearside B pillar (big enough for my arm after I'd chipped all the filler and rot out).

I must admit to having an area on our cab sills that needs looking at.. I will be in winter time cutting out any rot and making a new panel to go back in..

I will do all the work as I do with all my classic car Porsches and Mercedes.

but I do recall some where that there was a web site that showed in detail the repair.. not all the sills can be effected at the same time the most common area is the rear of the sill near the rear wheels and this is a simple panel making repair and tig or if needed mig weld back in. Treat with modern chemicals light stone chip and paint.

looking at it, it seems to be coming from the inside out not the out side in..

any one know the web site I am on about???? if was a red car if I remember right or unless it's on this site some where???

Looking through the vent in the B pillar, the cab cills are much more complex than the the coupe ones, not even seen any pictures of some stripped down. Not sure how the double floor affects things either.

Peter Empson has some good pictures of a Coupe here http://myweb.tiscali.co.uk/944lux/Restoration.html

I would be interested in a look inside if you do cut them open.
