Silverstone Classic event

There was a cup car there with an owner who has some slightly bizarre ideas about how much power it can make and how "special" it is. I think he believes he has 600+bhp under the bonnet running off stock injectors, standard airbox and a turbo that isn't a K26/6 nor a K26/8 but he doesn't know what it is it's just "different" (because it's a cup car). I don't know what we're all wasting our time with when a cup car and a chip can give 50% more again than the most powerful 944T we know of in the UK... [8|]
Also of interest (to me with my twisted mind) was an OK looking Cobalt blue Turbo cab for sale - one of the selling features was 70k miles with a belt change at 36k. On looking at the history the belt change was actually at closer to 39k - in 1994! I'd have trailered it away if it was mine with 13 year old belts in it!

It was a great event. Wonderful cars, superb weather that turned Rick a delicate shade of Guards and some good company.
Many thanks to all who made the effort to bring their cars, hope we can re-create the same line-up at Ragley!
Special thanks to Rick for pictures, Tony Bull's son for manning the coffee machine for 3 days, and Geoff Ives for diplomatically assisting the expert Silverstone marshalls...[][][][][]
Huge thanks to John Sims, who basically ran the display single handed!
Top Register, chaps!
I thought it was a great event.
Much more to do and see than previous Brands Hatch events - only real disappointment was a lack of 917Ks.
Paul is very kind with regard to the register display as, if people hadn't turned up in the first place, there wouldn't have been cars to arrange. The red/colour/red/colour/red/colour......line up did look rather good and (until a million 968's turned up today) was head and shoulders the most impressive line up. I think we threw down the gauntlet to the other registers - I understand the 996's will be doing silver/silver/silver/silver/silver/silver in future.

Worth a visit, but only to chat with mates really as there wasn't anything amazing to see yesterday. Nice turnout of cars I guess, but nothing you won't have seen before.
Apart from all the great racing, unlimited access to the paddock, chatting to the teams, and lots of interesting car club displays you mean? []

I had a great chuckle to myself as three 944s, probably coming back from Silverstone, led all the traffic, across 3 lanes through the Jct 10-6 roadworks at 50 mph. I think they were communicating with each other by radio.
Brilliant!
At least two had PCGB stickers. A black turbo with Cup Cup Cup stickers on the back, a red one that had been tuned up and told me it was 403.7bhp on the side and a plain (on the outside) red 944.

Let me gate crash this forum as a 997 S owner. I was up at Rockingham with the motorbikes today and came down the M1.

Ouch - that really hurts! Mine was the "plain" Lux....
That'll have been Rick, John and myself, pleased to meet you! The reason was a git in an Alfa Spider who'd been playing silly "I can cut all three of you up in turn" games, and had to wait behind us. At least we saved him from himself - he would never have understood the meaning of "average speed check" []

I'm not knocking it, it was enjoyable, but would I have been upset to have missed it? No. Could it have been much better? Probably no also - there's only so much you can do at an event like that and after you've been to a few you've seen it before. I don't especially like Silverstone as a circuit though so for me the racing could have been greater at a different track.

Hi Mark,
Beaky is back to being a plain Turbo again now - Cup cars are far too ostentatious. []
The stickers (decals) were almost removed irrevocably by a hilux truck when coming off the M1 onto the M25. He can only have stopped the thickness of a sticker from my rear end.
I had a great three days and the convoys with Rick and Paul up and down the M1 made that part of the experience far less tedious than they would otherwise have been.
Saturday morning Paul had a 1.6 Japanese something (with 4 up) two inches form his bumper for several miles. Once the traffic cleared we deployed Beaky. The shopping car maxed out in lane three and I spent several happy miles pulling up behind and dropping back and pulling up behind again as he tried to get away. We then caught up with Rick and could have enjoyed some further sport but shopping car pulled off. Just as well I guess as, while we we were well within the limits of our cars shopping car man was being a complete silly person.

Really enjoyed our parade laps too, pity we couldn't have had a few more of them - A big thanks to all those who helped organise the gathering .

Got to agree. Fantastic weekend, great company. Great hospitality by Porsche Club. Fantastic coffee! How people could not be impressed I don't know. There was particularly smart Silver 996 turbo, very clean, lovely looking thing!

Had a great time on Friday, good company and enjoyed watching various classic racers blasting round the track.

But the big question remains.................how was the rest of your weekend? []
[I also met the dude with the cup 944. Although some of the facts seemed unbelievable - 500bhp with 1.7 bar boost - £20k - £30k in value, anyway it seems it will be a feature of a specialist Porsche magazine, so all will be revealed]
Many thanks to Paul and John for organisation, and of course the dudes on the coffee machine.

We tried to explain to the chap that he was talking gonads - I actually thought it was sinking in, but apparently not. I was going to say I hope he didn't pay too much for the car, but it would seem like he did and he deserves it TBH - goes to show there is one born every minute if you ask me.
I'm not sure about the mag article either. Apparently Derek Bell was going to drive it on the parade laps on Saturday and later in the day he apparently had - strange then that I have a photo of the car passing Luffield and DB seems to be wearing a very lifelike mask to make him look like the owner. Of course maybe it does have 500+bhp and it's hard to contain as that would explain why Mr Bell was driving more like Mr Bellend on the parade laps and overtaking people.
I think we have one Mr William Cow-Dunger with a fairly ropey looking Cup car (with no provenance whatsoever as I understand it).

Mr Cup Car? just don't go there, he lives near Jon and I, as mentioned above he seems to live in his own world where his reality is a few levels away from everyone elses.
Shame really, I was so close to buying that car, but couldn't afford it at the time, it needed to go to someone who would give it a full, proper restoration and keep it as a rare item that it is.
It had a re-spray by a 'mate' of his and the last time I saw it the engine and more or less everything else was as red as the bodywork. I hope it looks better now?
I don't mean to knock the guy, just wish it had been done in the proper way.....
