Mike on his parade lap

mike1.jpg

Was Mike racing or just parading? Would like to find out about the possibilities of racing at the event next year, especially as there's a Porsche theme to the weekend. Anyone here know how to get on the track at the Classic?

Gav . . . . yes it's a real tatoo. He's got about 5 porsches and is very keen on the Zeemax look. His next project was to convert a 3lt into a 997 [&:]

Mine anagrams are really boring: [:-]

In order to race, you'll need a licence, an approved car, be in somekind of series, etc, etc . . . if you're serious about racing, the best person to speak to would be Steven Kevlin, he runs the motorsport side of the club (his number should be in Porschefile). Basically you can't just turn up and race (mores the pity). In the picture Mike was on a parade lap (as was I) . . . there was a track day organised for the Monday, but it was undersubscribed and cancelled [:(].

I've not heard what's being organised yet - but I'll ask the question next week. Just doing a google there are a couple of campsites at Silverstone - details at:

http://www.touristnetuk.com/em/northamptonshire/accommodation/ac-camp/silverstone.htm

Might be worth me contacting them and see if we can book now - I'll let you know how I get on.....

Any other ideas / experience with campsites in the area welcome [:)]

Whittlebury Hall has a site next to the circuit.

Thanks Melv - I'll give them a call and see if they're organising anything for the classic [:)]

Camping isn't allowed on the circuit itself . . . a few of us stayed at Wittlebury last year . . . facilities not bad, and the band was much better that the one in the scarf and goggles . . . plus there's a bar [:D]. (think is was something like £20- a night). This is were I'll be staying, so you might want to look elsewhere[;)]

Phil - you're a gem - that's the one I was trying to find [:)]

Perhaps we ought to look into a block booking? Who else would be 'roughing it'? [:D]

I'm sure there are a few other 'maverick' early porsche owners wanting to camp [;)]

Shall I get some idea of numbers on that other forum ? [;)]

Excellent idea - one big camp out - it'll be a test of strength to see if we can consume more booze than we did at CLM [;)]

Yes - I've spoken with them and they're sending me a pack in the post.

The deal is (and there's no block booking discount []):

Those arriving on Thursday (as I will be), staying Thursday, Friday, Saturday nights (and leaving on either Sunday OR Monday - same price) is £40 for a pitch.

Those arriving on Friday, staying Friday, Saturday nights (and leaving on either Sunday OR Monday - same price) is £30 for a pitch.

Those arriving on Saturday and staying Saturday and Sunday night (and leaving on either Sunday OR Monday - same price) is £20 for a pitch.

Showers, toilets, bar and restaurant will be open provided we give them notice.

More details when I get the pack from them - but I'm happy to arrange block booking or just let people book directly.

Thoughts?

Dates?

Friday 27th through to Sunday 29th July 2007, England, Earth, Solar system, ZZ9 plural Z Alpha [;)]

PLUS - there might be a reason to stay the Sunday night and take part in something quite special on the Monday [;)]

More details as I have them [:)]

. . . I sense a little red mist opportunity. I lost my knob on the parade laps last year.

Phil . . . you're going to have enough to do getting some kind of 'display/parking' organised . . . plus whatever else you've got planned.

It's not difficult for people to book the camping themselves . . . . although presumably you've got a booking form . . . . perhaps you could scan it and upload it here so people can print off and send off their cheque????
