Silverstone track evenings

Well the weather report for tomorrow looks a little iffy, but as long as there are no rivers across the track then I'm still looking forward to it. As far as I'm aware there'll be 3 of us there, myself, AndrewS and Simon D. Cant wait [:D]

Well last night went very well. 944's were represented by myself and Simon D's track car, there was also a 968 (who at one point refused to move over for a couple of laps [8|]) and a good mix of road and race cars, many less than you normally see on a Silverstone evening meaning there was plenty of space if you could get away from the queues caused by the ill mannered minority. The evening started with some drizzle making the track unbelievably slippery for the first few laps, but this went away quickly and I started to get back into the rhythm. After Oulton I was rather concerned with the cars setup, it was acting rather strangely there but at Silverstone it was fine. Ollie at RPM had made a few tweaks for me which seemed to have worked. It now has only a trace of understeer and none of the twitchy instability. The oil pressure is getting a bit too low, I saw 2.5 bar down Hangar Straight before I brought it in to cool down, I think I'll soon be looking for a spare bottom end to start a build, it used a litre and a half of oil, most of which I've just washed off the back of the car. I did get some video, but I think it's all pretty uneventful, sadly the camera battery ran out before the 4th session so I missed taping some clear faster laps. Numpty of the day went to the driver of an RS6, someone has already uploaded an example of his driving on [link=http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=3E3OdumPujI]youtube[/link], I reported him for a seperate bit of bad driving and the organisers acted very promptly. Rumour has it that he then went on to drive the Gallardo Spider that was there, we heard a massive tank slapper around Copse on the first lap and the engine gave up on the second, it was apparently a courtesy/demo car from a Lambo dealer... It did sound nice though!

Whopsey! Very loose lines and finally into the kitty litter! http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=3E3OdumPujI To be fair it had some poke on the straights, but anyone can do that! I'm going to try to make one of the evenings in July, it looks great fun.

I think I might be interested in joining you guys at one of these trackdays. I'm doing a novice day at Bedford first. Those RS6's are something else for straight line speed!

The poke of that RS6 was amazing, in the damp conditions I'm sure it would have been one of the fastest things out there with a half decent driver. My issue was him barging around the outside at Woodcote when we were in a train of cars waiting patiently to pass along the start finish straight. I was shocked to see what his driving was like in that video, the braking through bridge was inspired! We're having a bit of a meet up on July the 14th, so if anyone fancies coming along then the more the merrier [:D] There's a [link=http://www.porscheclubgbforum.com/tm.asp?m=446183]thread about it here[/link]

Nice report Peter [8D] How's the car (and you) shaping up after such a long absence from the track? Can you feel the beneft of the weight it's lost or are you still a bit rusty and out of practice? It took me a good 3-4 days to feel comfortable again on track, and then I had my little knock. Any news on the supercharger install, will the 19th July be a boosted evening? [;)]

Cheers Paul, Doing Silverstone was a good thing for me, as its really helped my confidence after Oulton where I just wasn't on the pace, at a new track with a car I simply didn't recognise. It's all started to click back into place with the tweaks and on home turf. After I'd remembered I had enough torque to stay in a lower gear I got into a nice rhythm. There's loads of time I'm losing in the braking areas, but I'm sure that will come back with time. The car feels so much more responsive now and I still know there's a lot more to come from it (it really needs to be lowered again and have the geo reset due to the extra weight loss, but that can wait). I am hoping to have the SC in for July 14th, the Innovate wideband is giving some very odd readings at the moment despite being calibrated, so I need to work out what's wrong first, once that's done I can fit the piggyback and start having a proper play. My biggest problem is time, I want to do the install myself but don't have a lot of time outside work at the moment. I know Ollie will fit it, but where's the fun in that [:D]

Just uploaded a video to Youtube, to be honest it's not terribly exciting as the sessions I got on tape were very damp to start with and traffic heavy, but at least I got some practice editing it all together. I've still not been able to sort the sound (think my bargain basement camcorder just isn't good enough, the whole thing is rattling to pieces) and I would recommend watching it in HD. ORIGINAL: Diver944 Good quality pictures tho [:)] Does your camera have a socket for an external microphone?
It came with a seperate sports camera which has an onboard microphone, but it automaticaly overides the internal camera when you plug it in, if I can work out how to fix this other camera in place then I'll give it a go, but it's not the ideal shape for this sort of thing. It's a much more rigid unit however so shouldn't rattle.

Peter just found these, http://www.cbsonline.co.uk/cockpit-ventilators-cvntl-1096-p.asp they work well on helicopters but the big fan on top and higher forward speeds might move more air. Glad it was a good evening, hoping to make at least one myself, Tony

Thanks Tony, they look ideal and are very reasonably priced too. I'm going to be ordering the windows fairly soon so that's a great help.
