The following will be in the Sept issue of PP, but you can get a head start here on the forum.

[/b] SmartTop[/b] As promised, I now have the information on a group purchase on this item. Last month I mentioned that I had been contacted by the manufacturers of this popular device with regard to a group buy scheme. The idea is that we get a minimum of 10 people who commit to buy one of these items.
The cost will then be 169 Euros instead of the regular 199 Euros.
I will pass on the list to the distributors (Wilhelmy-IT Inc), and they will provide a promotion code for use by those people.
Ordering will then be done with that code on their website, and delivery will be direct to the individual customer. For those who don't know what it is, the SmartTop control unit directly replaces your roof relay, and converts your "roof open/close" operation to a single press on the operating button, even on the move!
This is ideal for those with Glass rear windows (who don't have to get out and manually put the fold in the plastic window to prevent stress-cracks).
Of course it is also usable in the "up" phase by plastic window cars. I would caution those with plastic rear windows not to use it to fold (open) the roof "" you WILL be looking to replace the window due to stress cracks if you do not do the usual "chop" half way down. I should also point out this is an aftermarket accessory, and not a Porsche approved item. The club does not offer any guarantees, and it is up to you as an individual to decide to fit the item with the knowledge that the warranty could be affected. Please email me at boxster@porscheclubgb.com if you want to take advantage of the offer. (Even if replying to this thread!)

Or these at $2.50!

Dear Mark,

This is interesting. On a similar vein with respect to the Boxsters achilles heel i.e. plastic windows, perhaps someone like BAS Int. would consider a group discount for after-market replacement hoods? Anyone interested?

I was recently quoted £380+VAT for another plastic window hood and £595+VAT for the equivalent heated glass one (both supply only). Labour charge was an additional £355+VAT.

cheers,

Iain

Looks like all who wanted one have either got it in the last group buy or have got it directly. Worth posting this to the 996 group too; the last batch we had equal numbers from 986 and 996.

Mark

Just to remind you that there are several different types of SmartTop according to their web site - http://www.wilhelmy-it.com/ and the model year appears to be the important issue for the Boxster SmartTop. I will try to get a friend to contact you about the 996 SmartTop.

Hope all is well.

Yes it is - until 14th Oct.

After that the price is changing (I didn't know until AFTER I had submitted next months Porsche Post article []

The current deal is 169 + 10 Euro shipping.

After the 14th it will be the price (still 169 - I think), with free shipping, BUT the currently included customs charge, and VAT will NOT be included. As the unit ships from the USA this will amount to a lot more than 10 euros believe me!

Email me NOW if anyone wants to order before the 14th at the old price!

Un-pinning fromthe top and

^^ Bumping Up ^^ for those that blank out the "stickies" at the top [;)]

REMINDER - those that emailed me who wanted this, there are still 3 orders that have not gone through - please don't forget!

Mark

I can't put in my order until tomorrow morning. Hope this is not too late.

Please confrim if you can - e-mail not working at the moment.

Thanks.

Mark

Successfully sent off for my Smarttop. Now all I need is the slightly technical ability to fit it when it arrives.

Many thanks for organising this - I am sure that everyone who ordered will join me in thanks for a task well organised and communicated. [:)]
