smarttop

There's an ad in the latest Porsche Post (March), top of page 14. Looks as though you can buy direct from the manufacturers website, £139 for a boxster

Smarttop

Happy Hunting !

I've ordered one. I'll let you know how I get on with it.[;)]

On a seperate note I noticed a kit on e-bay to move the spoiler manual operation to the dash front utilising a proper switch in place of one of the blanks.
Although why would you do that unless it was to show off your PORSCHE decal that you bought off e-bay while your'e going slow ......DOH!![]

Cheers

So far very prompt response from Sven at smarttop, he has even sent an email asking if I require any further info prior to ordering..

What do the OPCs think of smarttop - does it invalidate warranty or upset them in any way. I'd certainly get one if they weren't going to use it in evidence against me at some point.

It clips in and out for fitting, no permanent alterations, so What Smarttop [;)] but good point.

doh - good point, it is plug and play so who's going to know, unless you do some damage as you exchange the units. Do the units slot in and out easily?

On their web site it has a download to show how to install, didn't check the Boxster, but they claim less than a minute, 911 unclip the wiring harness from the Porsche control box, insert the smartop in the connectors and reconnect the loom to the smarttop ..Jobs a gooden
Yet to be done..but mines on its way.

It's literally unplug the relay by your right foot and swap it with the new one, takes about 30secs.

I keep the original one in the car and swap it back if the car goes to the OPC,
although no idea what their view is of them.

Received my unit today, in the end it took 7 days to arrive, paying in Euros' was the only awkward part (made dificult by UK banks). But very happy so far..now to see if it works.

Well guys, it works [:)] was about 10 minutes max to fit, only took a philips screwdriver for the optional velcro safety strap (holds the unit in securely) otherwise no tools. Even easier for the Boxster.
What a pleasure being able to lock the car up, windows and all from the remote. [:D]

Mine arrived last week (Boxster), fitted in 1 minute. Easier & cheaper to pay via PayPal as banks charge a fortune for transferring to European banks

I don't have paypal set up so the Bank ran me over for a tenner in the end..
Been out in the sunshine today(while it lasted) much better and less noise in the 996 with all the windows up (on the motorway[])

How does this gadget overcome the need to manually release the hood before the electrics kick in?

Don't forget in Englands climate, you still need to stop the roof halfway down on a plastic-window Boxster, in order to do the "chop".
(Unless you like paying for new windows/roof every year or two).[&:]
Works well on the way up though I imagine ...

Apparently you can remove the standard relay, use som thin sellotape to cover pin no. 18 and then refit.

You still need to pull the handbrake one click to engage the handbrake light, so its not quite as versatile, but good enough.

Might have to investigate when the hardtop comes off ina few weeks time [;)]
