Snetterton Trackday -- 20th August

Car is nearly all loaded, see you in the morning boys [:D][:D][:D]

You'll notice me being exceeding grateful to Tony all day (I am using one of his cast off front slicks which still has some life in it [8D] ) Anyone know a tyre fitter near Snetters?

Drivers..........start......your.........engines [8|]

A realy great day, and weren't we lucky with the weather. Didn't we have a similar thing last year with Silverstone?

Must get out and bleed BKE's brakes again [sm=spanner2.gif] as he has a very, very long brake pedal. If Rick had known how long he might not have been quite as comfortable with me following him home .

Yep I think that personally that has to be one of the best track days I've been to. On a value front, I'm always pleased when I get more track miles than the number of pounds I paid for the event and yesterday was 178 miles for my £150 [:D]First time at Snetterton and I really loved it once the nervous first session was over with. I borrowed an in-car bullet camera so have much video footage of everyone. I tried to follow everyone for at least a couple of laps so I should have you all and I'll try to burn the best bits onto a CD (don't hold your breath waiting tho [;)] )

We were sooo lucky with the weather, and the incar shots of the sky on the last session look pretty scary, especially the lightening. If only the torrential rain had held off for another 5 mins I would have finished changing my wheels back and not had to spend half an hour sitting inside with the car on a jack and only two wheels attached []

I'm down to 1mm on my front pads so I'd better change them this week. They have lasted 5 trackdays this time (which is better than my usual 4 - I must be getting gentler on the stop pedal [:)] ). Thanks must go to Tony for giving me his cast off slick or I wouldn't have made the day at all. The car handle great considering I committed the cardinal sin of having two different makes on the front axle, and not only that but one was 225 wide and the other was 210. Long live the balanced 944 [:)]I must knuckle down now and find a reliable source of 16" slicks as the market seems to be drying up. Maybe 17" wheels would have more choice in this day and age of HUUUUge wheels

Stand by for some really great pictures chaps.

Belinda spent all the time we were out at the chicane with her new digital and the pictures are very good. I'm going to upload 2 pages to my gallery (32 shots) and you all appear at some point. The main delay is reducing a great selection to only 32.

I'll let you know when they are up on the site and if anyone wants copies on disc let us know and we will put them together for next weekend. Whilst you will be able to get copies off the site, they will be cut down as the originals are 6.3 million pixels 3.1 meg file size. The originals are very clear and lovely, we can see the whites of your eyes and most of you are staring the stare of a mad man.

I'm like that when popping down to Tescos so gawd knows what these will be like. I shall be monitoring your site all day.

My moving pics have come out very well and once I get some time off this week I hope to start hosting at least a lap each of all of us

Thanks Belinda and John,
would love some copies, was I the only waving and flashing lights back at Peter in the freelander then?
Would love some pics on a disc if you have time to sort it.

Paul, glad the tyre held together for the day, it repays you saving my Donnington day with a battery loan!

I have a new PC (with space on the hard drive) so I can start editing some video together too. The camera I was using is a bit wide angle so your car is quite small but I have some laps to send you.
Shame I didn't have a rearward camera in I could have got some nice shots of that GT3 refusing to let Paul pass [;)]

I bet there were some ferrari owners checking in the back of evo for some 944 performance stats yesterday night.

Excellent day,

Tony

Forgot to mention alothough everyone on rennlist says a narrow band AF guage is next to useless - it allowed me to spot I was running much leaner at WOT. Some investigation back in the pits revealed that the vacuum/boost line to the fuel pressure regulator had come off. it felt a little slower but there wasn't really any other indication anything was wrong. The early warning could well have saved my head gasket or more.

My thoughts entirely. Some warning is far better than none at all. I must get my lambda sorted. [8|]

Pictures are now available in The Dark Side Gallery. Click link in my signature and enjoy.

Good pics John (or should I say Belinda [;)])

Whenever I try to take moving car pics I just end up with a blur []

Good news on the video front. I have managed to upload one lap from the camcorder onto my PC as a .wmv file. Each lap on a reasonable quality is 3.8mb (or 1mb on poor quality). Now I just have to sort out somewhere to host it (or I can email people their own laps). Or I could just dump the whole lot to a CD I suppose

Bear in mind it has taken me 2 hours and much trial and error to work out how to download one lap at a good quality [&:]

I saved loads for editing together, watched it and its very dark - adjustment to brightness should be done before saving with software I am using, oh well start again!

Guys

Thanks for a good day -- 944 'trackers' are a truly sociable bunch.

Really enjoyed going past the couple of Ferraris and the GT3 in our session. Cannot keep up with your 320bhp cars though -- must hatch a plan!! As Paul said it was good value on the mileage front -- I also managed about 180 miles. Nice to learn another track.

Andrews chip seemed to give me a bit extra -- have booked a power run at Jamsport next Saturday to see how it compares. (price is £40)

My TOYO R888's worked well -- I am pleased with them, but I have never tried real slicks so do not know what I might be missing.

Just got away as the rain started but hit a horrid traffic jam in Cambridge which wasted 30 minutes.

Now -- all that hard work on video editing sounds interesting -- I would really appreciate some general footage and a bit of me if it exists.

Picture of me being chased by Andrews Pug !! taken by The 'Official' Photographers.

'til the next time (Brunters 27th Aug evening, anyone? -- I am booked)

Couldn't risk it. That is the day before we go to Brands so I should realy be cleaning and polishing. [;)]

Glad you got to see Belinda's pictures in the end Paul. We don't consider the 968 to be out of place with 944's - a 968 is just a 944 with odd headlamps. I like the way they illuminate without comming up when on side lights, by the way.

Would love some pics on a disc if you have time to sort it.

All in hand and should be available for Brands. [:)] There are approx 70 pictures in total, several simillar to those posted on the web site but the multiples do give some insight into the variations in cornering styles and lines - and that is just me. [:D]

I've only done 3 pages 'cause I got there late (but in time for ther rain [:D][:D]).

HERE

I can host the videos. I'm moving one of my domains off my USA webspace, so there's more space available for my Porsche site. Hopefully all will be UK hosted with 4 Gbytes space later this year to speed up UK access speed !

Bring the video files to brands and I'll add them when I do the rest of the uploads

Rick

Did not a chance to say a proper hello, did wave though as I went past -- thanks as ever for hosting the pics, you are far too efficent -- an example to us all!

Just finished burning 5 discs for Brands. If I should need any more please let me know.

I was a bit of a silly billy, if I'd thought we could have put Ricks pictures on as well and had a multiple record. Perhaps next time.
