Snow foam! Anyone use it?

Hi,

I bought a lance and foam last year from eBay, the lance is excellent, but I don't use the foam that was supplied with it. I've had my car 'Zymolled' a few times by Matthew at Off Your Marks detailing, and he mentioned to me that some of the cheaper snow foams can strip the expensive waxes off.

The foam supplied with the lance was Autobrite Direct Supa Snow Foam - I'm not criticising it - I use that on my Mondeo and my wife's Rav4 with excellent results, but for the 944 I bought Meguiars Hyper Wash - I think it was about £20 for 5 litres which dilutes 400-1 so it will last me for years.

Hi Richard,
With apologies for changing subject to O.P.
Have you picked up car yet- should be good with KW3 968 castor mounts and refurbed front discs.
Give me a ring i'd love to see it - wont be able to compare ride height for a while as mine in garage
no brakes- found leak but got to replace brake hoses with original as hole near back axle- so going to
replace fuel lines at same time as had an advisory on a bit of corrosion on fuel lines- usual place where
it goes over back axle. Going to stick to original parts so lots of money.
Cheers
Ron

Hope to be picking up tomorrow p.m.....fingers crossed....oh yes and I foolishly mentioned 968 anti roll bars, so they're being fitted as well [8D]

Very sorry to hear about your brake pipes, goes to show even the best kept cars aren't immune - I've had part of mine replaced with Kunifer tubing, but I'll no doubt have to do the trickier parts in the not too distant. Fuel lines as well....eeek! - gets to the point where you think 'should I get the clutch done while it's apart?' [:(]

Of course I could look to get mine done if/when I need to get the rear re indexed [;)]

Be pleased to meet up again soon and give you a spin.

Cheers,

Richard

This is all getting too anal for me.

Me too..........[&o]

Simoniz car wash, microcloth not chamois and Meguiars spray on wax thingy (10 minute waxing) and Wilko tyre foam (£1.99).

Used them for ages on all my cars (used to use MER) and all have turned out absolutely fine. I have to say at 70 mph on a rainy motorway no-one has wound down the window and shouted out "nice car but your paintwork could be better" [8|]

Lifes to short to consider a car from 300mm away with a magnifying glass and spend a weekend buffing and claying etc only to drive down the road and get a stone chip and have to lay down in a dark room for days to get over it.

Thats my view..................discuss [;)]

You didn't have to go and remind me about the chip... [:(][:(][:(][:(]

I agree entirely. Just wash it! And whilst I'm on, it's not "detailing" as that makes to sense. It's cleaning, that's all. "Detail" is not a verb!

Hi James- thanks for kind comments- wont be too bad as Simon is very reasonable for labour. I figured it was
worth doing properly and no point not doing fuel lines as i had been advised there was some corrrosion there.
Will keep my eye on R19 forum and look forward to a pub meet up- I'm away till 19thJune so hope after that.
I'm also going to try and come to the B.I.H. for some sunday meets.
Cheers
Ron

Hi Richard,
Should be great- so you decided to have 968 anti roll bars as well you devil. I am away till 19th june but would
love a spin in car after then- will send you an e-mail on return.
Enjoy the good weather- thats what bugs me most about car just as i can enjoy some roof out motoring the brakes
pack up.
Cheers

James, just seen this one in Tesco for £80 which looks a good deal - is this similar to yours?........

http://direct.tesco.com/q/R.205-9151.aspx

As I've got £8's worth of vouchers knocking around which I think you can double up, that makes it £64 including the patio cleaning attachment. Tempting as I haven't got a pressure washer [8D]

What is the "two bucket" method?

We never did find out but I suppose if the tap is a long way from the car then two buckets balance out when carrying and you halve the journeys required back to the tap?

My two bucket method is to use the same bucket .....................................

.......................twice [:D]

Car wash mix in 1st bucket, plain water in 2nd.

Wash-mitt goes in 1st, use on car, then rinse in 2nd (to get rid of grit & dirt) then recharge from 1st & continue.

Takes no longer than 1 bucket in practice, and you are putting far cleaner car wash on the car. Far less chance of scratches and swirls from grit.

What Mark says - plus, it's worth getting a 'Grit Guard' this allows you to rub the grit off of whatever you're washing the car with.

There's an excellent article somewhere on the interweb about this - if I can find it I'll post a link.

There's also a lot of info in this very forum's own car care section:

http://www.porscheclubgbforum.com/tt.asp?forumid=162

Indeed this thread should perhaps be there?

I agree, it produces a nice thick coating. But very much a product to buy if you've got a pressure washer already. If you haven't got a pressure washer, then I wouldn't bother getting one just so you could use a lance.

I used to have a Karcher jet washer and indeed it's still in my dad's garage but I never really needed it. Great for removing caked on dirt from wheels arches and the underside of a car, but once done it would go back away and not get used for another six months. Or until another friend wanted to borrow it.

I haven't used one of these but I suspect that you could get very similar results, assuming you had reasonable pressure from your hose pipe.

That looks like the same foam lance as the one I have, but the prices on eBay seem much higher than I paid - ISTR mine was under £30, they seem to be nearer £50 now.
