So go on,

Whose been out in their beasts for a proper run now we've had a couple of sunny days.

I have had a couple of run outs and seen a couple of other 997's

Saw a very nice black 08 turbo Cab today near Brentwood. He even let me in from a filter lane (nice chap) the only prob was he still had his roof up.......

So who else has been on a run and do you have any nice picci's to post

Yesterday - 3 hours cross country to Wasdale Head (the remotest destination in the Lake District for those who don't know it) using the quietest, twistiest roads I could find. Aimed to climb Scafell Pike in the deep snow we still have in parts up here when I realised I had to be home by 6 for my sister coming to tea - so puffed up and down Englands's highest mountain as fast as I could and then launched the C2S on another 3 hours of driving heaven. Home with 15 mins to spare. What a day out - even got a sun tan from the sun on all that snow!! Car loved the workout...

I finished work early yesterday, because this weather is too good to miss at the moment, plus I needed time to get to know my new steed. It's been parked in the garage most of the 3 weeks I've owned it staring at me every time I went in, and pleading with me to set it free ! [:)] Anyway made the decision and took it out down some well known roads that I use, through the 'Trough of Bowland if anyone knows it, and I was blown away with it's capabilities !! When the various road testers said that this car is probably one of the fastest A to B road cars on the planet, they weren't exagerating ! It left me gobsmacked. How it accelerates in 3rd gear from 30mph out of a tight bend to well in excess of the national speed limit and without any drama from the rear, and then corners like it's on rails and then onto the next corner, really has to be experienced. When I got home some 3hrs and 150 miles later, I couldn't help but smile to myself every time a remebered what I'd done earlier that day. Maybe it was because it's been a while since I'd done anything like that, but all in all, an awesome, awesome afternoon !! Yet another 997 Turbo convert !! [;)]

Trough of Bowland is one great road!! One the best in the North, especially if you return by scooting round the top of Bowland and back down from Bentham to Slaidburn.. There's a couple of real surprise hump-backed corners near Dunsop Bridge - really keep you on your toes. Took my mum there for a drive a couple of months ago (just before the snow came) - she said she hadn't had such a good day out all year. Was it me or was it the car? Don't answer that!!

Gave the rod a good spring clean yesteday (including all wheels off, wheel arch liners and engine bay). [:)] Couldn't resist going for a drive out today - wonderful blast. [;)] Now it needs doing all over again. [&:] Regards, Clive.

Hi Tom, not exactly a run out but since you asked for photos, here's one from a MSE track day at Abingdon a week ago. The forecast was for wet and windy weather but it turned out to be a lovely dry day. It was great to blow some cobwebs away and hopefully we'll get the nice Spring weather that we're definitely owed after the Winter!! All the best, John

Spooky!![&:] I was actually plotting a very similar route yesterday, hopefully for a future event.[:)] Doug if you have the route on google maps, can you email me a link.. garyw

We did that route in the beast last summer - came over form the lakes - what a fantastic piece of road. There was a Lotus in front who seeing me coming up behind decided he didn't want to be over taken............as he knew the road I got some excellent lines to follow [:D]

Know the Hawes road very well from my biking days, just watch out for the unmarked Impreza's lurking around there if you're driving a little lets say 'spirited' ? [;)] Would be interested if there was an outing sometime around here, seeing as most of them seem to be south bound ? Please post up details if you organise anything. Ian

Ouch!! [&:] We were in the North Peak district last year, so Yes slightly South .... [;)] Many of the owners in the South offer to assist in putting these events together.... which makes a difference as we get the local knowledge- like the Hawes road information you posted [:)]. Be assured though I am mid putting a route together for a run up to those spectacular roads, I hope that the more northernly owners do come out to support it.. I think another thing is the Northern regoins also put on some great driving events that many of us attaned aswell.. The Lakes has been mentioned but I felt possibly the 997 is perhaps too large a car to do the roads- certainly peak season in the summer.. opinions?? garyw

Depends on how many narrow bridges are included in the route, I suppose! [] Regards, Clive

ORIGINAL: zen4590 No one wants to massively exceed the speed limit on public roads but driving to it (instead of 25mph behind a row of caravans) is far more pleasurable right ??....[;)]
Doug, it sounds like we're on exactly the same wavelength with that thought [:D] Clive, the bridges are usually the wider sections!! its the stone walls and caravans that worry me..[:(] Stunning area though... and one I've loved visiting garyw

I live near Skipton and get up early most Sundays to have a blast on the Hawes/Ribblesdale road lots of good roads up here.....worth a trip![:)]

Guys last year did solo tours with the Mrs in the Lakes and in North Yorks in Masham Fantastic roads and driving - mind you as per Gary's point with the stone roads and corners wouldn't want anything wider than my car if a sheep was coming the other way let alone car or caravan. Know of a fab hotel/pub near Masham that would do us and could park a number of cars out of site (its in a tiny village anyway so low risk of vandals/tea leaves) more or less dead on one of the good routes. If thats your interest. Both definitely a mid week just after rush hour locations, Weekends are for walking and sitting in the pub, a good way to end the tour mind.......[8D] We'd definitely be interested if s trip is arranged.

I'm about 18mls south of Skipton which is only half an hour drive away for me. Would be interested in a run out sometime if any 'locals' are up for it ? Cheers Ian

Thanks for the information and routes Doug, most excellent... [8D] When works quieter I'm certainly up for a midweek jaunt out... or if you local guys want to organise a get together and pre-plan something?? I'm thinking about a late Autumn run.. we did the Elan Valley last year which was an amazing scenery of colour- or blur according to which side of the car you sit in(apparently) [;)] Probably a weekend to allow people to travel from further afield... garyw
