Some timely help needed - knocking from rear of car.

just saw this - I missed the thread first time around. I chased a similar rattle for months after having new pads fitted. It turned out it was the little self adhesive locating plates that had not been fitted. They stick to the back of the pad and have a circular piece that locates in the pistons on the caliper. That was on turbo, Brembo brakes. I guess the S2 is the same.

Rattled over bumps and sometimes just when driving. Rattle went away with light press of brake pedal. New self adhesive backing plates cured it.

Yep, the ali caliper had oxidised a little and wasn't allowing the pad to sit in there. A little grinding of the pad and it's all good. Such a small amount too! Breaks beautifully and is quiet as a mouse now!

For those that offered some advice...and for those that are just plane soppy, here is a nice picture of my 944 at my wedding...yep, if you were following this thread, it made it! My wife and I have spent many happy hours before in the car and it was lovely to have it with us on the day.

Great to see the 944 made it on the day. The Morgan is just stunning, all cars should be that size! [:)]

Tom, love the look of your S2 in cobalt lovely !!
Oh and congratulations.

Thanks very much!

Don't see very many in Cobalt, I think they only did it for the last year of production. I've often wondered how close to the end of production mine is as it also has a bridge spoiler and is actually recorded at the DVLA and in the log book as 1992 as first year of registration.

Appreciate that it's not the fastest colour, but I love it none the less! [:D]

Indeed.. this picture shows even better how dinky it is!

It's a bit snug and the driver has to get in first otherwise the passenger will end up with a knee in the face as the driver has to climb around the huge steering wheel! Love driving both these cars though....for different reasons! [:D]

I like my cobalt 92 968, not many of them either

Never seen a 968 in Cobalt, I'll bet that looks good! Mind you, I've not seen many 968's!

Interesting, both Cobalt, both registered in 1992. How do I find out about how close to the final runs off the production line mine is? Presumably there are records of chassis numbers etc?

congratulations to you both .....car looks fabulous . best colour there is I reckon except Dove Blue of course.[;)]

I was going to suggest plate lift on the rear calipers.
if new pads have gone in and the garage didn't remove the steel caliper plates and straighten them, then the new pads could be jamming and not returning sufficiently to clear the discs.
Classic symptom is a rubbing noise in sync with the wheel speed that dissappears when the brakes are applied.

I always file a slight bevel to the brake pad tangs to reduce any friction between the pads and the caliper plates
