Well I havent a clue what thats all about.[8|]

I`ve still not got around to changing the old Sony tape player in mine. I run a portable cd player from the g/box via a tape head connector but dont use it much as I`m usually too busy driving to relax. Mind you the 10 speaker system is very good, particularly for some classical music but does lack bass

Morning all,

  • Kenwood Head Unit with tape
  • 6 CD Changer
  • 6.5" Kenwood 3-way speakers in rear side panels
Dave K.

My sound system includes:-

2.5 ltr 4 cylinder Porsche engine
Lindsey Super 61 Turbo
SFR MAP induction
Forge Dump valve
ESS Exhaust.

It's all I need. [;)]

I'd quite like a test pipe on the waste gate but then Beaky would be too loud for track days.

Aiwa CD unit, unsure of the model no.- I dragged it out of a BMW at the scrapyard the other week, paid £20 for the privelige....bargain!

Standard speakers, but to be fair, they aren't bad for 22 years old!

I have just fitted a pair of 6" x 9" mutant 3 way speakers in the rear on my 88 944s there was a little modification to the metal work but wow what a differance, i still have the original 3" x 5.5" pioneers in the front," i need to change them as the clarity aint all that" and a poineer combo sub and amp in the boot.. it absolutly rocks.....with the poineer head unit and 6 disk changer for favorite toooons....not bad for somthing that hasn`t left my garage for 6 months......

JVC single disc face off cd player with jbl upgraded front speakers, standard rear speakers and all enhanced with a discreet base box in the boot.
Oh and I play music from my ipod through an adaptor that plugs into the lighter socket throught the stereo

On about half way with sounds in my white one..got a crappy Goodmans cd player fitted(got a JVC head unit..just waits for fitting..a pair of 4x6s in front(will be replaced with 6x9s),pair of 4x6s in rear(again will be replaced with 6x9s)..and then the "box"..got a 1000w JBL woofer and 2 pairs of 6x9s fitted in there..and the box "replaces" the upper bit of my back seat..sounds nice..but like i said..i'm only on half way..

my S2 came with an old Sony CD which is pants tbh .
The buttons are minute. I don't believe anyone can read the blasted things even stationary.
Until I can change it I don't know how good /bad my speakers are. I don't use it because I have no manual and can't seem to scan and put local stations into the memory Grrr

Don't laugh but I have bought a Ford 6000 CD radio to fit into my S2 . The reason is that not only is it an extraordinarily good quality sound reproduction it has huge buttons which I can see without reading glasses, even on the move.

I fitted one to my work car recently (Mondeo TDi) and the sound is fantastic. I cannot belive I put up with a top of the range Kenwood for so long. Before you scoff try a Ford first I think you'll be amazed as I was. They search out weak signals and hold station brilliantly. Just the thing for darkest Somerset and Dorset

I am going to solder in a 3.5mm aux input jack to the 6000 so I can plug my satnav and ipod in to the ICE

I've got an Alpine head unit with iPod connected with JBL 2-way speakers in the door and standard speakers in the rear. Superb sound quality but lacking in bass. The iPod integration is great though.

Like Charles ,I have a significant investment in Audio at home but in my past cars, I have had an all Alpine and Infinity setup.
Alpine head Unit hooked up to 2 x Alpine V12's amps linked to Infinity ribbon tweeters, Infinity 6 X 9's and 4" Infinity Mid. with 2 x 10" Alpine reference subs. This kicked out somewhere in the region of 2000 watts of sublime audio. My mate got hold of a decibel meter and it was reading around 119Db's inside the car.
Unfortunately that lot would not fit in the 944 so I parted it out to friends. I still have the amps tho just so I can say I have two V12's [;)]- got to say it they are awsome amps for sound quality.

In my Volvo C70, there must be somewhere in the region of 12 speakers with Dolby Digital DSP processing. Now that sounds fantastic as a factory fitted setup. I think they use the Infinity speakers too.

Since having the 944, I can honestly say I have only played the JVC setup once, hated it and never played it again and decided to listen to the whines and whoooshes instead.[:D]

Original 10 speaker set up with Kenwood Mini Disc Radio.

I also have matching Kenwood CD changer, which is not fitted. Does anyone know if the 944 is pre-wired for this and how easy it is to fit?

OK, I'll bite.

My latest addition is a £30 FM transmitter that I can plug my phone/MP3 player into. It is brilliant. I can listen to many CD's worth of "Tunes" off my phone and, when I get a call, it is immediately a hands free kit fed through the car speakers. Smokin'

Agreed. I had a decent Alpine head unit with 6 CD changer but got fed up with the compromises of getting decent sound in a 944 so stripped it out and gave the lot to my brother.

Me Saab 9-5 has the 12 speaker option like your Volvo. Very good for a stock system but the base model sound systems they supply are complete rubbish.

I have the Who - Who's Next, in the CD unit for the last 6 months. Brilliant driving music, what do you guys listen to whilst motoring along?

Good question. It strikes me that not many people do much in the way of music installations in 944's, for a variety of reasons. And fitting a big pumpin' phat bling bassy nonsense in a sportscar is a contradiction in terms (will someone please tell this to those of the demographic who seem to spend most on such things.)

However, I hate listening to poorly-reproduced music, and hence have a JVC head unit and a small Rockford Fosgate amp in the boot, feeding some Alpine speakers in the standard spaces in the doors. I'd like to fit a small sub in the rear side panel, but am not sure that I could justify the time or money.

Either way, it sounds much better than the standard system, and means I can listen to some top driving music while ... erm ... driving! What do I listen to? Very varied ... enjoyed almost all of Bent's "Created to Love" on the way to work this morning, and have Holst's "Planets" in mind for the way home ... am also getting into ambient electronic in quite a big way, so Stella, Chicane, Schiller, Opus, Kinobe, Robert Miles, Faithless ... and so on.

Well how old do I feel? I'm assuming these people are musicians not footballists?
