southbound trimmers- headlining fitted

Jason, You seemed pretty happy paying £300 to renew your headlining before this thread started, you may find that at current labour rates its about the going rate. Others may be able to do it cheaper too. I'm sure if you buy the £40 Southbound kit there will be plenty of volunteers that could assist you in fitting it and saving you some dosh.

This is the type of thread where I wish you could use a smiley with a box of popcorn.

Ps - I will be calling ST tomorrow re seats / material!

Just a thought. If you're replacing the headlining at any cost, I guess it would be worth changing the sunroof cogs and making sure it's all set up correctly, and that the sunroof seal and drains are all in good working order? It would be heartbreaking to have to get to the cogs, or have water damage, after all that work. [8|]

Ooooh, now that's the best idea I've heard on here for a while!

Yes, brilliant plan Edd. In fact, we could make it more communal; Jason, how do you feel about hosting a bit of a garage day? You name the date, and a bunch of 944 chaps show up and we swap ideas and borrow each other's tools and do whatever small jobs need doing. I'd be quite happy to turn up and fit a headlining (and doubtless make a huge hash of it, thus proving that paying a skilled expert £40 an hour is a bargain) and help with any other jobs that other people need doing. We could bring some sandwiches or pork pies or something for lunch, if you were happy for us to eat them in your kitchen.

Mr Pope, does this sound like a plan for you? If so, when suits? (Maybe an idea to make a new thread if it does work for you, so others can see it too.)

Ooooh, harsh ... Edd and I are old friends and I really hope I didn't rip him to pieces. His view of owning 944's and mine are diametrically opposite in terms of finances, and both points of view are equally valid. It's good to have a spectrum of opinions on the forum (and that even includes people who think Turbos are somehow superior to S2's - something that Edd and I most certainly of one mind on) and hence it's always to read and hear his opinion.

(And if you check closely, those cows were in stables, not sheds. They are Porsche cows, after all ... [;)])

I'm quite warming to the idea of a garage day this summer; if Jason can't host it then I think I will. Although I happen to know that Jason is dropping his beloved S2 off with Tower Porsche this afternoon, so it may be a while before he posts again on this thread (Jon can talk a lot!)

Oli.

Erm.....that's "ripped to pieces" in the comical sense mate, nothing "Harsh" about it. To my mind cows are cows no matter if they belong to Porsche, Bugatti or Andy Pandy!! I just thought your response quite funny is all. Guess i'll have to watch my outlandish sense of humour in future [:(]. Oh, and by the way, Horses live in stables, Cows live in sheds!! [;)]

Yes Oli does have a way with words doesn't he, but I declare I won the argument...[:D][:D][:D]

JOKING!

Edd

PS S2 are definately superior to turbo's[;)]

hiya,,oh dear,,i appeared to have started a healthy exchange of views lol,,
,edd,,appreciate the input,,i have no intention whatsover of attempt the headlining and if southbound were the only option i wouldnt think twice but looks like i will have it changed when my car goes back in to tower for the bodywork in the very near future,,just wanted to know what sort of price they charged and how it compares to tower [get quote when i am due to pick baby up tommorow hopefully]
,i wouldnt expect anyone to do something unless i was willing to do it myself unless i paid them re spannering ,,
edd,, i just couldnt see how six hours is justified for headlining and as i hope your aware i am off to the workshop for the most minor of things because i have virtually no "spannering" skills and never cut corners in cost when it comes to spending money on my s2,a pile of bills for things most people on here could do with there eyes closed would testify and am most certainly not looking for a "cheap" way to change my headlining,
,i will post the quote from jon at tower for the headlining when i am back home on sunday night, maybe its £340+kit at all specialists that also offer bodywork in this part of the world?,,cheers jason p

hiya yeah i am up for that,,nice plan oli!! i will be on tea, drinks, and cake duty,,plenty of space,,thanks for the offer of the headlining but you know what an impatiant sod i am and its too tempting not to have it changed when car is already in the workshop with the back windows out,,so i am totally up for a garage day,, i am on holiday from 2 or 3 of sept for 10 days but anytime before or after is ok,,just a little notice needed,,,be great to get a lot of my cleaning gear out of the wrappers,lol,auto-glym resin polish and auto glym hi-def wax for people to use if needed!!,,plus lots of stuff for our cars like that spray that feeds our back spoilers and keeps them nice and black!,,so i will leave it up to people to arrange a date,,be nice to see a few people,,regards jason p
