Specialist insurers not so special...

It's that time again - i've just renewed my insurance and I thought i'd try these specialist insurers advertised in Porsche Post. What a waste of time. Not one of them could even get close to my Direct Line renewal quote, the closest was a full £400 more. What a waste of time. Adrian Flux was the only insurer who was prepared to match my Direct Line renewal quote but they wanted alot more excess and they wouldn't give me protected no claims. Although when I finally get round to getting and installing a MAF Direct Line will want another £130!! Unbelievalbe - especially when their quote for me with a £30k 911 turbo is still cheaper than my 944 with the MAF.

I tried Adrian Flux but they didn't want to know at all because I'd have my Porsche for less than a year, even though I have over 25 years clean licence!
Every renewal time I just get more brassed off with all insurance companies and really think they are all a complete rip-off.
Cynical old git I am!

I used HIC - the only firm who would include track day cover - much cheaper than buying it per event.

Also happy with mods - they appear to just rate them on the additional bhp

Herts Insurance Consultants.

Don't diss Flux, they are virtually your only friend when the mods get extreme.

Norton Insurance `Heritage` classic insurance, cheap as chips with all sorts of xtras built in incl track day cover for PCGB events

AON came out best for me, trackdays included once I could show evidence of having some trackday experience. The novice session I did at Oulton last year covered that no problem.

I don't have a number handy for HIC, but a Google should find it.

Flux are a broker so it depends who they place your risk with, but they told me a cage is no problem "why would we load a policy for safety equipment?" I believe they said.

Maybe my problem is that I don't want a classic insurance as the car is effectively my main car so I need to maintian and protect my NCB and need coverage for around 8k miles a year - probably more next year as the wife will be off work looking after the nipper so the Focus wont be doing the daily grind to work.

Yep, therein lies your problem. All the 'specialist' insurers with so called great deals for Porsche don't actually want you to drive the car [&:] Keep it under 3 or 5k p.a. and the opportunities are endless, but use it as Dr Porsche intended and they suddenly all go quiet []

I always used to have this problem with my Turbo - 15k miles a year, mild mods and track cover and no-one is interested. When I get it back it will go on a 5k a year policy with all mods declared

Hi Scott,

I'm with Adrian Flux and I only have semi classic insurance and my car is my every day car at 7,000 miles per year. Being 36 with full protected no claims I paid £440.00 last october which I think is good. Porsche was the second closest for me at £500.00, have you tried them?

Hi,

I went to Carole Nash. I just bought the car last week (944 S2 Convertible). My record isn't perfect! I have 1 no fault bump, 1 windscreen claim and 1 my fault bump in the last 5 years, although I have 25 years with a full license, and no accidents prior to 2003. They ignored the Windscreen claim. I also have my wife covered ( she has 3 points SP30 ).

It's a classic policy, and they quoted £213.00 for 3000 miles or £278 for 5000 miles.

I tried about ½ dozen others first, none came close on price. The car has to be garaged.

Sometimes, having a female driver on the policy will reduce the premium.

Hope that helps,

George.

With Adrian Flux my wife actually increased my premium which is very unusual however they did match my Direct Line renewal quote of $436 for 8k miles a year and full NCB however they wouldn't/couldn't provide me with protected NCB which was the killer for me. To be honest i'm not that bothered about £436 a year its not bad value considering but I will try another couple of the ones listed above.

I tried Carole Nash last year and because I wanted cover for more than 6k miles a year they warned that the quote would not be competitive and boy they weren't kidding.

It's that time of year for me too. Best quotes are currently with my existing insurer, First Alternative. Full protected no claims, parked on street (sleepy Oxfordshire village).

12k miles: £477
8k miles: £433
6k miles: £417

I'm getting tempted to go for normal insurance as opposed to classic next year - I went for 5000 miles, and in just over a week I've done about 500!

I need the novelty to wear off quickly so I can keep my Porsche in the garage and just do 100 miles per week on sunny days, but somehow things aren't as good when I drive my Mondeo...[:(]

Just had my first insurance quote for my modified car (when it returns) from Adrian Flux

Not bad - only a tripling of the premium [8|] (I was hoping it would be doubling [:)])
