My GTS has PDK which then comes with the sports steering wheel and paddles as standard - not sure what steering wheel comes with a manual version - the GTS also has a sports exhaust as standard.
 
If you are looking at a GTS, it will have sports exhaust, not sure about the paddles. A C2S with PDK might have paddles, it was an option later on, but probably won't. If its got sports chrono, it doesn't necessarily mean its got sports exhaust as well, that is a seperate option. Good look with the search, I'd say focusing on a GTS might be easiest place to start if you want sports exhaust. You get a bit more power too hope that helps jon

I am looking at trading in my 997.1 C2S manual for an (approx) 2 year old 997.2 C2S or a 997 GTS. and have a couple of basic questions.
With the new car I am considering a change from from manual (current) to PDK _ are the steering wheel paddle shifts an integral part of the PDK for the later cars or do I need to be loking for this as a specified item ie do all the PDK have padel shifts in cars of this age?
Secondly I have a separate sports exhaust button at present that is great and I want this function on the new car_a lot of the new cars don't mention this function separately but I recall a recent thread that i believe indicated that the sports exhaust function was integral in the sports or crono package _it's also a little confusing that the GTS seem to have the same size tail pipes where as my Gen 1 has two different diameters which I believe also shows a sports exhaust system _can some one clarify this please,so I know what i am lookin for in the car locators spec.

The paddle shift wheel option on the Gen 2 cars came along towards the end of 2009 for the new turbo and in 2010 for the others. In was certainly not a standard feature on the C2S although I can't be sure about the GTS! Any PDK car can have a retrofit paddle wheel in any case (but not cheap!) The Gen 2 cars with PSE do not have the different size exhaust pipes and you need to check the spec sheet but, as has been pointed out, the GTS does have PSE as standard. Lovely car the GTS, btw! The main differences from the C2S were more grunt, the SportDesign nose with black splitter, black sills from the GT2 RS, and the 44mm wider rear body from the Carrera 4. There are fatter rear tyres too, revised springs and anti-roll bars, plus 19in RS Spyder centre lock wheels. Other additions are the Carrera GTS logos (black or silver), a black diffuser, and Alcantara trimming on the three-spoke steering wheel, handbrake and gearlever. The coupe normally came without rear seats, but these could be specified. GTS is 5kg lighter than the equivalent Carrera S. It came with PASM, sports exhaust as standard and 67 or 90 litres fuel tank could be specified. 6 speed manual was or 7 speed PDK transmission with paddle shift were the transmission options. and questioning the specs. yes I'm a fan of the GTS _ i did get a white manual one on loan from my local OPC for an afternoon in March 2011 (it's suprising how many miles you can cover in 5 hours given half the chance

!!!) and with the short shift box it was a brilliant package. Don't think i've seen a single bad review of this model _all who've driven speak highly. off to break open the piggy bank! tony
 
Go for the GTS an amazing package for the gen 2 cars, as close to a daily useable GT3 as you can get. Or go large...my turbo S is for sale at RPM in Tring, see their website, just been out in it again after a Ferrari track day though, now I am not sure about selling it!
 
Thanks for another vote for the GTS_i had a look at your TTS on the web and it looks terrific, but its a little more than i have in the piggy bank for toys at present

I also think the GTs may hold its resale better (or perhaps sell quicker) in a few years than a late model S , as when more 991 come onto the approved used market in a few years , those looking for a 997 would IMO gravitate towards a GTS rather than an S_food for thought. interested to hear fedback on the F****ri track day_ what was that like? and what made you reconsider selling the turbo S was it cars or the company? tony
 
Every petrolhead wants a Ferrari in his life at some stage - then reasoning eventually takes over! [8|] There's no factor I can see to indicate Turbo 'S' will depreciate more, in percentage terms, than GTS, but if you spend your days worrying about residuals, then, in the heady world of supercars, you're doomed to totally spoiling the experience. Heart over bank balance more like! If I'd worried about how much mine would be worth 3 years down the road it wouldn't be out in the garage now.....[;)]
 
Clive re _reading my post I did jump from admiring the Turbo S to talking about depreciation in the next paragraph in a confusing way . I was actually considering my two current options of Carrera GTS v Carrera S in my comment about resale not Turbo S and it was IMO Any ho, now i've excercised the depreciation demons [&o] i can go back to the fun part of comparing specs[:D] regards tony
 
GTS has sport design wheel as standard with paddles if PDK'd .... However some people will have specced the multi function steering wheel ( at extra cost) which has the buttons rather than paddles ... Not sure why you would ... You also get sport exhaust, with different tail pipes and 408 bhp. Mine will be two this March ... Thanks for the responses to my car specification queries and for the brochure etc that helped me refine my search. Happy[:)] to say that I'm signing off this thread as job done, as on Saturday I wil be loosing my faithful 997.1C2S manual [:eek:] and gaining a 12 month old Basalt Balck 997 GTS --[8D].PDK, paddles, sports chrono plus, sports exhaust,centre lock RS Spyder wheels,Alcantara, etc etc. Watch out for some pics soon _now where was that thread with the great looking aero kit??[:D] tony
 
Tony many congratulatations. It's a great car, you'll love it. Does anyone know how many 997.2 GTS and GTS 4 were built? Hoping not too many [;)]

Nice one Tony. I'm sure you'll love it. I went from manual 997 C2s to pdk GTS and have not regretted doing so. Also echo the previous comment about being as close to an everyday GT3 as you can get, it really is two cars in one with the sports chrono option. Don't hesitate to get that aerokit!![;)]
 
Congratulations on the new purchase! You'll not regret the choice. Pictures soon please [:)] I put the aerokit on mine and loving it. If you do, ask to keep the old rear lid/front lip. I've got mine nestling in a room. Could make a nice wall mount or you could just sell it! [:)]

Dear waxman and lancerlot There was nothing wrong with the Ferrari track event that HW Owen arranged apart from the fact that Millbrook was packed with Audi A3s that day on a launch so you couldnt get your foot down around the Alpine circuit What I meant was the turbo s is just such an amazing car, relatively understated, unbelievably quick and capable and you can get into it in any weather and just gun it with total confidence. The Ferrari by comparison felt more special, sounded simply amazing and the experience and emotion of the car came out as you drove it. It still felt on a wet wintery road that it would bite you at any minute and stick you in the hedge despite all the press about its trick e diff which is in some peverse way was equally appealing when compared with the totally confident Porsche. In the ideal world, have both as they are so different but as lancerlot says you have to try one if you can and I can so I think it might be a one year wonder until the 991 tt arrives, lets see I will a real world view once it arrives.
