Speedlines ..... again

Silver 7 no the rings were not standard, the only cars i have seen standard on are the gt2 and some Mag centre cup wheels.
FVD will give you 10% discount, dont forget 19% vat ,unless you are vat registered. The only problem with these new rims,is that they will be same again in a couple of years.Hence the rings, they deff helped keep my wheels in good condition from new .
Probably best solution is get them polished and then anodized, adrian from the 964rs boys does a good job refurbing these wheels for sensible money and puts the correct Graphics etc on
Tech 9 did have these in stock at one time, and even nicer the slightly wider cup rims.

Thanks very much Paul, much appreciated. Adrian is refurbing one set of my RS rims as we speak

I will look into the ring for my other set

On three piece Gt2 wheels there are bands of steel , in effect making them four piece..........the band sits on the inside face and helps prevent the flex that kills the lacqueur.....they are in addition to the normal sealing rings

I rebuilt one of 993 RS CS speedlines, it had;

1; heavy star centre which bolts to hub
2; large inner rim
3; shiny outer rim that the valve sits in
4; 6-8mm thick (approx) 18" band which was fitted between the inner rim to locate the rubber seal.

Is this the ring we are discussing or does the Gt2 have anything different?
If there is anything extra on Gt2 is this partly to compensate for the lighter magnesium centre section??

Interested to learn,,cheers!

Paul i think u ve described what i would call the seal ..........the roughly 1/8 " flat steel band i am referring to is up against inner rim and and nuts sit on it , as far as i am aware only fitted to GT2 speedlines ................

More info for you paul
The ring me and vic are on about can be clearly seen from inside the back of the wheel.
The ring you are on about sits in between the rims with the seal etc.
The mag centred gt2 and cup centre lock wheels are slightly differant in shape again, the back of the Mag spokes are flat and thicker than the sculptured ali centres.
I converted a set of mag wheels to road versions for the hillclimb beasty, good to get hold of a set for that all important 10th of a second!!

Cheers Paul, that is the case...no ring under the nuts themselves, they sit on the rim....I went to the garage to check and it is definitely missing a couple of turbos...never mind [:D]

Dear All

1. Does anyone know if a set of 17 inch "˜Cup' design wheels for a boggo 993 will bolt onto my 993 RS's hubs to act as a set of "˜slave' wheels whilst I have my Speedlines refurbished/rebuilt? A mate has a set of Cups I can borrow, but before I drive across London to borrow them it would be good to know if they'd fit. There looks to be very little space between the brake calliper body and the inside of the 18 inch Speedlines so I'm wondering if 17 inch wheels might foul the calliper.

2. Has anyone had a set of 993 RS Speedlines rebuilt using new outer rims from FVD to eliminate the need to polish out the milky white corrosion in the metal under the lacquer, replicate the etched wording etc?

http://shop.fvd.de/?VID=466456&VCD=78983154&AM=1&SM=1&LM=2&MM=item&AC=item_details&item=FVD362965002&gid=245&sgid=&CarCompany=0&CarType=12&CarBody=&CarYear=1996

If so, in addition to the outer rim and the 40 bolts, what other components should be replaced as part of the rebuild?

For example, there is obviously a seal between the annular components of the wheel. Is this the black plastic/rubbery thing of approx 8mm width that is visible pinched between the two halves of the assembled wheel when the tyre is removed, or is there a separate seal such as an O-ring hidden from view below this ring? Is this ring what FVD call a "˜gasket ring' on their website? "" see:

http://shop.fvd.de/?VID=466456&VCD=78983154&AM=1&SM=1&LM=2&MM=item&AC=item_details&item=FVD362965004&gid=245&sgid=&CarCompany=0&CarType=12&CarBody=&CarYear=1996

I'm not proposing to rebuild the wheels myself, but I am keen to understand the construction and the scale of the job before approaching a pro.

3. Does anyone have a recommendation for a pro in the London/South East who knows what they are doing as regards rebuilding split rim Speedlines?

Thanks in anticipation.

Hi Mate, I think the 17's should bolt on ok.
Am currently having a set of speedlines refurbed using the FVD supplied rims and as far as I am aware they are genuine speedline items.
Not sure on the rubber seal replacement but would of thought that you could reuse with a good coat of silicone sealant.
I am using a company called GTR motorsport and will let you know on results.

Regards

Thanks Paul

I'd be very interested to hear of your experience once you've got your wheels back.
