Speedo Lights

Had my car four almost 5 years now and always assumed that the reason I can't read the speedo at night was due to blown bulbs. Only the bottom bulb works. Recently noticed though that if you only put the side lights on, then both bulbs come on and everything is readable. I put this down to some short or dodgy wiring somewhere.

At last nights club night fellow supersport owner with a new pristine car turns up and leaning in the window notice that his speedo is the same, only the bottom light comes on. He then says, watch this and puts the side lights on and hey presto all lights working, just the same as mine.

So is this common and is there a known fix?

Looking at an almost unreadable circuit diagram. It appears to show the speedometer has 3 bulbs. One is switched directly by the light switch and the other two via the instrument panel dimmer. Apologies if my interpretation of all these wiggly lines is incorrect.[:(]

I agree, they arn't the brightest of bulbs and guages are not best designed with bright reflectors.

I replaced every gauge bulb with LED's. They bright and whats more they consume a fraction of the power!

Did it make much of a difference ?? and if so are they too bright now ??
Where did you get them please ?? questions questions [:D]

Thank you

Ian

I did all the stop/tail lights too. They are much brighter. You need to change the flasher unit too!

Thank you for that will look in to it but not sure if im brave enough to go the blue route though

Ian

I will no doubt do the mod but i think it might have to be white.Does any one no the part number for the bulb as i put the P no that Pete917 had on his web site ( UBA7W ) on ultraled web site and it came up as unkown.I did e mail ultraled yesterday ( Friday ) but as of yet no reply.

Cheers

Ian

It been a while since I did mine so maybe part numbers have changed with better bulbes.

All my dashlights were white (except for indicators etc which I colour matched). The sidelight bulbs were white, but they were in that part of the spectrum like the moder HID lights, so had a hint of blue.

I would say give Ulttrleds a ring. He's always very helpful.

Good luck with it...

Hi

I like the idea of changing my tail/stop lights to the LED ones which have been linked above, however are they road legal in this country ?

Mine has gone through its MOT with them on so I am assuming all is OK. Also, modern cars come equipped with LED's fitted as standard.

Its interesting. The red LED's emmit a better bright red, than a clear tungset bulb behind a tintend red lense.

The good thing is, its easy and quick to swap back

The only other place I have used in the the US. Here's there site:

Good luck

No worries Aldo. Ive been called worse [:)]. Im the same on a Monday (and tuesday, wednesday, thursdays etc for that matter)

I searched on Malpins web site and found they also stock LED stop / Tail lights, however they stress they are NOT road legal.
